i bought it for rs 750 here in India, so the price would be $17 approximately. before i got kaspersky my computer was frequently attacked by different varieties of virus and i had to repair my pc around 3-4 months every time. (even though i had avira throughout the whole time) then i got kaspersky, n i am using it for over an year now, not once has my pc got attacked by virus (kaspesky would detect it n delete it at that instant and create a copy of the original file) i am not facing any trouble with my pc now. it has d facilities of de infecting different different kinds of internet viruses. so kaspersky is my suggestion.
i havent tried other antivirus softwares so i dont know about them.

That's okay if you are using genuine Microsoft operating system. If not, it won't work well.

I recommend you to use Mcafee advisory it's for online website. It will detect if the website is dangerous or has serious virus. This is the best one, because we get viruses in the website that we opened right?
And also, kaspersky is the best one but very heavy.NOD 32 but very confusing and difficult to use.But I am using malwarebytes now. It's deleted serious virus.

If you want free you can try Avira or Avast, search for free CureIt scan it just removes it has no resident protection, but it could help remove the virus from your computer remember that some variants of malware are difficult to remove, or may disrupt the system in these cases the formatting may be one of the best things to do. If the operating system does not start you can try downloading this distribution here: www.ubuntu.com with this distribution you may be able to copy documents or photos txt if Windows does not boot. On the site you can download the Avira an iso that lets you scan your system for malware without booting Windows: www.avira.com If malware is hard to remove the Internet search on it there may be specific tools that can help you.
Site Avast: www.avast.com

The Best That I Use is esetnod32!
Works great and amazing, also uses very litto resources.
I use it on my desktop! Its not free though.
For my laptop I use AVG Anti Virus!
The free edition! It works great!
Detects viruses fast! So go and check it out.
And as for a free firewal just saying go with Comodo Firewall!
Both amazing great programs!
