We should never believe anything like that. It's too good to be true. These big sites are the perfect place for people to send these spam messages to try to scam people. They can circulate their stuff to a large community of people and it would be hard to track them down. That's a disadvantage of these large and popular sites. The bigger and more popular the more junk like this pops up. I usually ignore messages and mails of this nature since I know that they are spams.

What the!
That is a big amount of cash! O_O!
Unfortunately i am sure that its a scam because your friend suddenly got the message without doing something.
But there are also things you must considered to know if its a scam or not.
You must ask yourself if,
You joined online raffles or sweepstakes?
Did you join Online Contest`s?
And etc. :)
For me i also encountered that kind of thingy telling that "You are the 1,054,203 winner!"
So whenever i encountered things like this i just ignore it :)
If you believed it ill tell you.
Too much expectations may lead to SUPER HALLUCINATION :)
Hope my post helped you.
Thanks for sharing this post. Happy mylotiing :)

Scams really are proliferating in the net as people are so comfortable earning online money. However, it still pays to be wary of notices even your trusted sites can turn scam anytime. Never give too much info on the net and never give out your bank and personal details which can be used against you.
We really have to be more careful nowadays *sigh*

Definitely a scam email. That is another way of spammers trying to get people's personal information and take advantage on it. I have never received such message from Facebook and if I ever do then I definitely would ignore it. Because what did I do to win such a lot of amount of money? Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

I doubt any of these have ever turned out to be legit.
I'd suggest just thinking "could someone make money from this contest?"
If you're looking at something like the lottery, yes, yes they can and they do. Giving winnings to people who didn't even sign up? Never.
However, this problem won't go away completely until people stop getting fooled by it. Somebody, somewhere, has fallen for the exact scam you detected so easily.

It is definitely a scam message.I have not received it on FB or MySpace but it comes routinely in the spam messages of my gmail, yahoo and hotmail accounts.I simply ignore it and delete them whenever they come.Tell your friend not to trust such messages because if he does then he canlose all his money in his bank account since they always ask for bank and other details.

It sure is a big amount. But this is a confirmed scam. Like what you've said, large sites are being attacked now and then and because of that, the users in there get attacked and spammed too. So, the best is to avoid all these impossible messages.

Well, I'm pretty sure that it's a scam. These days, you can't really trust anything that says you won this or that. But some of them are pretty convincing. If they start asking for names or contact information then they're really scam. I hope no one falls for these anymore.

That is obviously a scam. If your friend does nothing. Doesn't even try to join a group or something probably the one who sent that are trying to conceive him to view the site. By that they earn money.
