sometimes you just have to wonder

So today I was at the adoption center. I thought for a moment that we were in a hurricane, it was raining so hard at one point. Don't think I've seen it rain that hard since hurricane Floyd.
Anyway, it was slow and so I happened to overhear something. This woman started yelling at this PetSmart employee, "why do you people always ask me if I want help? If I need help, I'll ask for it." And she stomped off, leaving one very stunned looking employee. Poor guy, no doubt he was instructed to ask the customers if they need help.
Now maybe this woman is dying of cancer, or has terrible back pain, or is just a b*tch. I don't pretend to know, but wouldn't it have taken a lot less energy to just say, "no thank you?"

I never behaved this way, at least as far as my memory serves, but I do get annoyed with restaurant servers in particular, when I'm eating the dish that was brought out to me, and every five minutes they come by to see if I need anything else. Geeze, I know I'm big but I really don't eat that much! At least let me finish my plate or my drink, and then ask me, not every four or five bites.
Now a pet store of course is a different setting - were different people asking her at different times? This can be common in bigger stores, and sometimes I am annoyed at that, but as a general rule, I don't mind being asked then. That is why I prefer to shop in smaller stores. Their prices can be higher, but none of the big store hassle. And very much easier to find things by yourself if they have it in stock.
Or then maybe it is the rain. Or that seasonal daylight syndrome, or whatever it's called that causes people to get squirrely during shorter days.

With restaurant people, why is it that they always seem to ask you when your mouth is full, and when you really need the, they are nowhere to be found?
As for the pet store, I didn't really see what happened before she started ranting...

I wonder if this women is older and is realizing that she can't do all the things that she used to and it just hit her more when the employee asked her "if she needed some help?" I don't think that being rude is ever right, and I know that I have ran into my fair share of rude people and never quite get it. I do always wonder what prompted the rude behaviour though. Also you didn't mention how old she was so I'm just guessing that she was older, because to me that would make some sense. On a side note, tThe rain was unbelieveable today, I hope we don't float away before it's over. Merry Christmas!

Well maybe recently diagnoised with some sort of dibilitating disease, still not a reason to be rude to someone who was just doing their job.

Yaiks. I've actually been guilty of snapping at a sales clerk for repeatedly asking if I needed help. But that woman went overboard yelling and actually stomping off like that. And, right, we couldn't judge her because she might have her reasons, but, it wouldn't have hurt to just walk away (which I normally do, except that one time) or tell him calmly that she didn't need his help.

It really makes you wonder what ever happened to the kind gentle people we've long been touted to be? Maybe this person has short circuit or something that made her react in the way she reacted. Politeness doesn't cost anything and makes life easier for everybody. It is just puzzling as to what is ever gained by all the unnecessary bile?

Yeah , what's up with that kind I wonder too ..
If there's no nice thing to say at least she could just smile instead of snapping like that. I hate snappers .. it doesn't give anyone an excuse to snap at someone even if she/he dislikes the person or whatever the reason is.

It could also be that he was the 10th employee that visit to ask her if she needed help. Even though it's not their fault that does eventually get on my nerves as well!

Yeah could be. Of course my mini-cam wasn't following her around, so I only saw the end part where she went off on the guy.

Dawn-
I have to wonder if it is the scenario that this woman had been coming to this particular store every week for food and was slightly annoyed that no one knew her. I mean, I know even for myself if I have shopped somewhere for a time period I sort of want people know who I am and say hello, but not to treat me like a new customer each time. Maybe this woman got upset because this young man was treating her like someone he'd seen for the first time. All of us, if we admit it, want to be remembered when we go somewhere.
We live in a small town now so each time we go to the store most people know us that we see regularly. It's kind of a nice feeling. Maybe that's all this woman wanted.
On the other hand, maybe she was just a cranky old woman whose dentures were too tight. Who knows.

tight dentures, or perhaps underwear...
I know when I worked in a stationery store, there were long time customers who got annoyed when they weren't recognized. On the other hand, PetSmart is a pretty large store, and it would not occur to me to expect to be recognized...

Hi dawnald!.
Its must really uncomfortable for that young man be yelling in public like thats. Maybe thats woman only have a bad day. Thinking positive about others will be make us feel better even in bad situation like thats.
I had a store so I absolutely know even when I ask for for good deed the result not always positive. Its really takes times to understand and now I don't let situation like thats ruin my day.

There are days when I feel like having a hissy fit, but I think I always resist, because I know it is inappropriate and not their fault. It is usually a sign of me needing to eat something. Hubby says: "Let's get you some protein." because I start telling him "I am getting crabby." Anyway, it has been many years since I have snapped at a store worker. I was a Wal Mart employee, off duty and the stupid cashier treated me in a condescending manner, and I was hateful, but that was an ongoing thing with that particular co worker. In most situations I would just say no, thank you, as you said.

I get like that when I haven't eaten also, boy what a difference after getting some food into your system. Now I'm talking about going all day with nothing to eat. Reminds me of the snickers commercial that's running with Betty White in it, lol. Merry Christmas!

she probably just came from another store where they were on her like a stinky diaper.
we have one like that here, with the thinly implied "are you stealing today".
it does get aggrevating.
not that that excuses her behaviour.no would have sufficed.
some places employees can get fired if they don't go up and ask.

Or maybe in that store he was the 5th or 6th person in 2 minutes.

Yes it would have been a lot simpler and quicker and she would have avoided coming across like total cow! I have seen people react in a similar fashion in public and I do try and give them the benefit of the doubt presuming they may be just having a bad day but it does get too much some days! I don’t think there is any need for rudeness toward innocent bystanders

I think that the lady was just having a day like I'm having today. It has been a terrible day for me because the kids have done nothing but get on my nerves. Because of the fact that they have been so off the hook today, I just want to either yell at someone or else I want to go off in my little corner and cry. I think that there are times that we all have days like that. However, I relly don't think that I can see myself yelling at an innocent store employee.
