How Forgetful You Can Be?

Hi Mylotters,
I found some interesting news today on a section of my daily newspaper - The headline was a tell all thing - "Mom forgets to pick up baby from the cab".
I dont know what the mom was thinking at that time or what was she so hurried about but I think we all have this tendency of forgetting...
Yes, we do keep remembering things that are important and many others too... but at times a few of these just slip down our memory and we seem to forget about them... Until sometime when we are reminded (maybe due to circumstances or otherwise).
I also read somewhere that the Umbrellas are the most common commodities that are forgotten to be picked up in London (given my information that London people use umbrellas more than any other).
So from your recent past (or even the ancient past), do you remember to have forgotten any commodity or anything? How did you feel when you remembered or realized you had forgotten it?
Cheers,
theSids.

Omg! She forgot her baby! She must been very occupied. As for me, I'm also a victim for forgetfulness disease. I sometimes forget to bring my reading glasses which is very important in my workplace. Sometimes I forget to get my change from a grocery store. Sometimes, I even forget to pay the fare haha!

Returning back home for getting the glasses can be a real pain in case you stay far and mostly use the regular traffic hours for communication. So please try to get another spare set and you can keep it at the cupboard or anywhere (if that is safe) at your office desk.

I an understand the problem that you would face if you are at work without the glasses... How do you manage the situation if that happens? Do you keep a spare pair at your office desk to avoid embarrassments or issues?
Paying the fare? As in while using public transport? If I did that here in India and they caught me, I would end up paying much more

I can't read well without my glasses, in those times I forgot my glasses, I endured my 8 hours work of strained eyes. Sometimes I have to go back home to get it. Regarding the fare, yup while using public transport like jeepneys or buses. I haven't have a harsh experience so far, since I'm a woman and I don't look like someone who would run away from unpaid fare. The drivers so far are kind, they would just say "Miss, you forgot to pay."

Hello there! I am also a very forgetful type of person. I don't know why, but I am not like this when I was still single. When I became a mother already, I tend to be very forgetful that I forgot many of the things im having with me, but thankfully, not to the point that i would forget my baby inside a cab.
I also forgot occasionally that im bringing my umbrella with me, but now, I didn't forget it anymore because im having a pricey one so the tendency for me is to look for it every now and then. Last 3 months ago, while inside the restroom of one big hospital here in our country, I forget to pick up the paper bag which contains facial skin care products worth 70 dollars. I am so sad about it because its not mine. Its the belonging of my husband's aunt who just requested me to bought it for her. She just gave me the amount to buy for it.
Thankfully, i was able to report it to the security officer and he allowed me to see the CCTV camera that's why we were able to locate the person responsible for getting my lost belongings.
All I remember is that, I felt so relieved knowing that I could gave the items to the right owner and I do hope that I will never ever forget anything again in the future, which I knew is impossible. Have a nice day ahead!

Must say that you are lucky to have been able to get back the things (or at least some of them) using the CCTV footage. In india such things - finding back the lost items - are rare and a thing lost once is gone for ever (unless you are pretty sure and have a good relation with the owner where you misplaced/forgot them.
I can feel the satisfaction and happiness that you would have felt when you recovered the lost items.

Thank you for that. Yes, I am so relieved when I recovered my lost items because as ive mentioned, its not mine. I am only entrusted with those and I don't wanted someones possession to get lost under my care. Im just so lucky to have very supportive new found friend inside the hospitals' security office. They save me from paying $70 to my aunt! Thanks for the BR my friend and have a great day ahead!

Well I took off my glasses last night and this morning I could not remember where I put them. Thankfully my wife saw them this morning and told me where they were or I would probably still be looking . I don't see how anyone could forget their child though. That is pretty terrible. When I have one of my kids out with me I am constantly worried about them and watching them.

Hi thedaddy,
I must say thanks to you - Your forgetting of the glasses reminded me of a story that we had when we were at the nursery school. There was a man called Kutchu who kept forgetting his glasses - thank you for this
We do not have kids yet but I think I would be a better parent for sure (at least much better than the woman in that news)

Hi Gracee,
I can relate to your forgetting the ID and the Cell phone. My wife keeps forgetting those too. However I have a solution and she has been able to implement it for her -
1. For the ID - I got that attached to a chain and a safety pin/saree-pin. So now she can keep it hanging around her neck or even get it pinned up in her saree(that is a traditional Indian dress, for those who are unaware).
2. I got a pouch for her cellphone and I call her up when she is expected to leave her office just to remind her that she has to get the Cell phone back with her.
Hope that helps.

A mom can forgot about their children is something very serious. That is something that cannot be acceptable. There are many news in the past that mother left their children in their car unattained for hours. And they just go for shopping and forgot all about their children still in the car.
I have read a articles writing about there are a place in the train station if not mistaken it is in London that kept the stuff that left in the train by the passenger. There are a few thousands stuff waiting for the people to claim . I think that is due to the busy life that caused them to forget about their belonging when they were in the train.
In my whole life, I only forgot or consider left my Walkman in the bus when I was still schooling. That is the only thing that I ever forgot to take back.

In all honesty, I can be really forgetful at times. But, some stuff I can never forget. Those happy moments, and sad moments I will never forget. But, those moments I experience by passing, I tend to forget. Well, some chores that my parents ask me I may forget those.

I felt naked. I once ran to the bus and I didn't have my watch on.I felt naked. I need my watch so I know when my buses are coming and when to leave work. Luckily there are many clocks at work but some are fast and others are slow. I felt so out of sorts All day. I have only done this twice!2 times too many!

I don't carry a cellphone. I hate phones. so either I wear my watch or I don't know the time. I love my watch , it tells me the date too. I can't tell you how many times I have used my watch to tell me the date!

Hi Sarah,
There was just one occasion when I was without my watch and I know how painful it can be... I had just got used to the watch and as it was an ordinary one, it got drenched in rain and was for repairs. That was in 1988/89. I had a horrible time those three days - I missed and kept getting late in everything everywhere.(that was in high school).
When I started college, I won a lottery at the fest that gave me my second watch and since then I have two watches always. One I use regularly and the other is just for such occasions in case the other goes out.
But now, since the cell phone, life is a bit easier but I prefer to have my watch instead of my cellphone. I think that adds value to me and also gives me a feeling that I am more in control of my time

hi thesids,
To be frank I am horribly forgetful. Ask me some one;s birth day or anniversary or anything important I would look into your face asking you the question.
I know, I tend to forget thinks so easily but still have not built a habit of jotting them down.
On Several occasions I have forgotten to bolt the door of my house. I am often chided by my friends as I forget their dates.

Hi Krajibg,
The numbers make me crazy too.. and ever since I stared using that cellphone, I never got back remembering numbers. The two numbers that I remember now are - my cellphone number and after a guess or two, I can get my wife's cell number correct.
Dates were never my forte and I was quite weak when it was about dates. I wished I had some love and respect for numbers... I could have been a better computer geek
I have a diary where I store the B'Days of my friends but I always end up browsing that diary after the days are passed and I get a message from them - "You Forgot Again"

How does a parent forget a child. I would have to think your mind is truly somehere else when you forget your child somehere., forgetting an inanimate object can be more readily accepted than to forget your child.

Hi thesids, not only in London forget their umbrella here in India also we do the most. But this is a shocking thing how can a mother will forget her child, that is very unbelievable. Always moms will think about their children. May be she is in depression or in frustration yet how can she forget? Peculiar mom.
Have a good day thesids

Hi Lady,
That I must say relates to my mom and a cousin... Many a times they forget what they are speaking and that is quite painful for them (or anyone).
I usually forget the Towel, Bike's Keys and occasionally locking my house (I think this habit has been developed just because I am lucky to have been staying at places that are better secured with several people staying around inside a secured campus)

Hi AKP
Thank god you forget the things so essential in your car. And you seem to be lucky to remember at least that part. So you find them easily if they go missing.
Oh that I see below is your signature and if my calculations are correct that is the 3rd signature from you... I remember from one of my discussions

There I remember a movie called "50 First Dates". In that movie, a woman has problem with her memory and she can only remember what happened on the current day. After she wakes up the next morning, she cannot remember anything that happened before. But nevertheless, she is able to fall in love with someone, and with the help of diaries and videos they can even have children together. I find that movie very interesting because it is a different wawy of life, and it is a great challenge for all that have to deal with such people.

I know that very well. Sometimes I forget where I laid certain things such as CDs, bags etc. And then I search for it quite a long time and cannot find it! Sometimes I even panic and think to myself I will never see it again. And someday, I discover it if I don't expect to find it. Such experiences several people I know have already made including my mother.

Woah sids, that was sure forgetful and in societies nowadays, losing one's baby would mean 'almost' or 'total' doomsday for the parents as there are a lot of kidnappers and human traffickers. Well, as for me, I've not forgotten such major things before but my mother once put the TV remote control into the washing machine and found it the next day after searching the whole house. Another time was that she left the table cloth in the fridge and found it hours later, LOL!

Hi JudgeIronFist,
The newspapers these days I believe are running out of stories (they also realize their audiences getting bored of the daily dose of political and not-so interesting stories) So they publish such short stuff too - missing out most of the details... But yes, that was sad and something strange for me and many others too - "A Mom forgetting to carry her baby back"
TV remote gone missing for a day! WOW - though we dont have a TV set at our place but in many of my friends and relatives' houses, they keep themselves busy with surfing/changing channels all the time.. So that is a rare thing I believe people would forget here
Thank God... I do not clean my Dining Table... Though I clean the fridge once in 15 days and find some goodies forgotten by my wife inside

As for forgetting a child--there was a big story a few years back about how a father left both of his young children strapped in their carseats in the locked car on a 90 degree day for several hours while he went to work. . .they both perished, of course. His excuse was that he forgot to drop them off at the babysitters before heading to work, and since they were sleeping and quiet, and because he had a lot on his mind, he forgot they were there. Awful, huh?
On a lighter note, my husband and I forget where we put things all the time--currently, we can't remember where we put the car keys. . .they have been missing for two days!

Hi Suzie,
Yes, that was awful and sad. And the excuse seems to be lame... but the pain would last for the rest of his life.
OMG.. the keys of the car... I always forget the keys of my bike and just dont know how to fix that - I go down the stairs to start my bike and every time, I realize that I forgot the keys up back in the room... When I reach back at the room... I forget where was the place where I put them last time... My wife gets furious each time and that costs me an Ice Cream or a Cofee...

Hi there!
Talking about forgetting things, I am definitely one of them! I used to have so many things in my mind that I actually forget a big portion of theem. By the time I remember them, it has long past the deadline. I solve the problem with..my blackberry bold and I am definitely counting on this phone like a personnal assistance to me! I find another method is to write things down in a diary but I feel bringing a diary around is a big hassle :)

Hi nicregi,
Technology coming to aid you in remembering things.. That definitely is a great sign and proves that you feel bad when you forget things.
I believe typing in all the things into the Black Berry and maintaining the diary (I am a trusted failure when it comes to noting down in diaries)can be good if done with accuracy...
Look forward to know how you implement it and maybe it would help me too

Hi thesids,
Till I read this news item, I thought I was the most forgetful person in the world. But to forget a baby next to you in the cab, It must be a height of it all. I have lost count as to how many umbrellas I must have lost. Presently I run a cake shop and there I have to quiet often undergo a lot of embarrassment for forgetting to book the cakes the customers have ordered inspite of having a full proof arrangement for the same. The normal practice is to make an entry into the diary for the date the cake has been booked but due to some reason either not finding the diary in place or getting mixed up with some other customer at the same time. Result a huge embarrassment when customer comes to pick his cake.

Hi msdivkar,
That is a real trouble dear. I wonder what the boss does when such a mishap happens? I can relate to your situation if this as when I was working part time as a store keeper (a grocery shop locally during college days), I too missed out on making entries at the right time and was sacked twice for that... But the owner was kind enough to give me two chances

Hi Bhanu,
So you are a good student - more studious type... I never carried anything more than an old diary for my college... Dont panic - it was way back in early 1990's. I forgot to attend almost many classes when at college... they never seemed to attract me until I was in the Graduation years.
