As a Writer there is a part of me that wants to write stories that is set in the past. One of them will be set in the Medieval period, I just like the chivalry, kingdoms and Knights. I also want to make something that is set in the colonial era of my country because It has the dynamics of my country's culture. Part of me also to make something made in the 50's or 60's, Because during those era, women looks beautiful, When I see those old movies and pictures, the women are beautiful, I was a kid in the 90's and I know the women then are not as beautiful as those ladies in 50's and 60's.
The biggest conflict for me is that I know I have to research so things will be accurate with history. Plus
What period/vintage era do you like when your watch or read?

yes, when you write something based on periods past, then a little bit of research is needed to portray an accurate picture of that era. since you belong in a different era yourself. hehe
i'm fascinated with the 16th century, the 1890's and the 1950's.
like many, i took a liking for the periods with kings and queens and kingdoms and the birth of romantic novels and sagas. i used to read novels set in this period (1600's) and i'm quite captured by the fashion both for men and women... interesting.
1890's for me is a period that has a place in history where local heroes were known. i would have liked to have known more about this period.
and 1950's is like a post-WW2 transition period in the country. like a melting pot of all things foreign and local influence (spaniards, malay, chinese, indian, japanese, british etc). plus the women's dresses in that period is so nice and very lady-like. i like the cuts, just a bit off-shoulder on top and hemlines below the knees.
goodluck with your writing.

Anyway I'm kinda inspired something that is going to be set in the 50's but there will be some crazy twist. I hope its going to paid off, this concept is stuck in my brain since I was 13 but I dont know how to make it work. I finished different stories already but this concept is still stuck in my brain.

I would much rather make history than watch/read about it but if I had to choose I would say it would be moments in history that were actually life-changing, as a posed to specific eras.

So you like real life historical events that makes an impact to this world like the world wars or different revolutions? My favorite Historical events would be the first flight of humans, first space voyage, when women are allowed to vote or when a coutnry receives freedom from invaders.

I'm actually a high fantasy fan who reads very little realistic fiction. A lot of what I like to read takes place in medieval-like period, but since it's a fantasy world I don't really care much about historical accuracy. Assuming that we were talking about an entirely different world with a different history, I imagine not everything would line up with our own history. When I write my fiction I do a little bit of research on trades, tools, warcraft, and such of the periods I like to set my fantasy stories in... but I don't worry too much about 100% accuracy, because I don't read or write fantasy for realistic accuracy.
I also like some historical novels set in the middle ages, the classical greek or roman eras, or the European Renaissance. When I'm reading something that claims to be historical fiction then I would prefer it be as historically accurate as possible.

Forget critics. If you're lucky enough to please an editor, who cares what they think? Critics are never all going to be 100% pleased anyway. No matter what you do, there's going to be someone who hates it and thinks it's bad for whatever reason.

What makes me feel hesitant about writing something vintage is the accuracy. I'm afraid critics will bash me for it. so i was giving my best to research and watch movies set in those era's for the sake of accuracy.

I like the theme chivalry but not any era in particular. I am a big fan of those stories where there are always heroes and villains who are able to fight with impossible martial arts such as having the ability to fly, fight without physical contacts. Thus, if I were to write a story, it would be based upon the characters' ability but less restriction on the era (although I like the beautiful outfits that can be seen in those period Chinese drama worn by the casts.)

Ancient China had always been a good setting for many fantasy novels and movies, I like how martial arts sequences works better with that time setting.
Chivalry themed ones, always worked with some romance but also with war stories.

1800s, two lovers following not only deeply in love but madly in love.
I have a thing for the 1800s, women taking care of the husband; sounds romantic to me, unlike today--feminism. Call me old fashioned, but there are some places where women don't belong- never should be part of in the first place.
I have also been thinking about writing a novel that takes place in the year 4030, people driving in space and no longer habituating to the feeling of gravity. Human population evolved to.... you get the drift, not saying anymore.

I can understand why you like girls from the 50s, and I do like the 50s, I think it was freaking awesome to get your food delivered by girls on skating rolls, it was the period where people not only ate in their cars, they watch TV (went to the movies in their cars)

i think during 50's the actresses then dont have surgeries, so their beauty is genuine. I just chose 50's Canada as my setting but there will be w twist..... The people there only think they were in 50's Canada, little did they know they were a secret government project and they live inside a space habitat.
Whoa I'm sharing my concept..... oh well, You can copy the plot if you want, since its only a plot not the whole story,.

I like a number of topics, from ancient Greece to the modern world. I also have an interest with the medieval period - the age of kings and knights. But fiction about the medieval era sometimes has magic and dragons and fairies in it. And I love it that way :)
