I don´t mean artichokes, but real flowers with beautiful colors, the ones you plant in your garden for beauty. Many of you know that this year I started a vegetable gardening. I have learned a lot and made many mistakes. But one of the pluses was that I plantes and I´m eating nasturtium leaves and flowers. The flowers make a green salad ·bloom· in volour. The leaves give a peppery taste to salads, a bit like cress or arugule. The only thing to check is not to use any kind of pesticides. I don´t, as one of the reasons to grow my own veggies is to eat something healthy. I jusr read that nasturtium flowers can be suffed with a mixture of cream cheese and chives. YUMMY!!!

There are many edible flowers, jak. Some are very common, like artichokes. Noone would thing that they cannot be eaten. But some others are beautiful, coloured flowers. If they are eadible there are no side effects. Take care! Excuse me for answering so late, I did not see your answer.

Yes, I've heard about nasturtiums in salads. I believe you can also use rose petals and violets. The idea is to sugar them. The process is that you boil sugar and water I think then put the flowers or petals in and the sticky mixture adheres to the flower/petal. When dry, they are hard and can be used for cake or dessert decorating and can be eaten.

Hi. marguicha. Maybe for an insect it could be. I have never eaten flowers before. I have eaten lettuce leaves and spinach leaves. Never flowers that I can eat. If it is safe and healthy then I see nothing wrong with it.

I have heard of edible flowers but I don’t know which ones they are. It would be interesting to find out. I watched something on a lifestyle program about them a while ago. I may buy a book and learn more because according to the TV show there are many health properties as well associated with edible flowers and plants.

I have eaten artichokes all my life and there are favorites for me. But in Mexico I saw zuchinni flowers in the market and this year, when I planted nasturtiums, I checked the plant and read that leaves and flowers were eadible. I went on reading and had a try at them. Spicy so I would not put much in a salad. But just imagine a green salad with some bringt orange and red petald between the greens!!!

roses and chrysanthemum and wisteria are also eatable, not a lot of flavor, but eatable, have to pinch the little tip where the rose petals come from the flower cause that part is bitter

That is actually something that I have always been interested. I know that there are many edible flowers out there, many that we can grow in our own gardens, but I've never had the chance to try it. I had so many things going on this season that I barely had enough time to plant my flower gardens, let alone my veggie garden. This coming year though, my children and I have decided to dedicate a corner of the yard to a veggie patch. I too believe that it is important to have healthy choices and what better way to make sure that your family is getting them, than to grow them yourselves? I know that one of the things that my husband and I have promised to do in the coming year, is be a little more careful with the food choices that we make. I think that this is a great way to start and will be looking into it more. Thanks for the neat tip.

I started a vegetable garden this year. In my country it is summer so I am starting to eat some of my produce. I didn´t have success with everything and learnt the hard way the how tos of some plants. But still I am eating my own potatos, I have been using garlic greens for a long time and my tomatos are green still but show promise. My green salads have been a lot nicer than before. I buy an iceberg lettuge and mix it with red lettuce, arugule and now nasturtiums. Yummy! No pesticiddes either (that´s the reason I did not have green beans but I don´t mind).

So far, I only know that there is one kind of flower called the ixora, which, the bottom of it has nectar and we can suck the nectar. It's sweet! Other than that, I think there are some flowers which can be fried, which I see on TV, some chefs do it.

As I grew nasturtiums in my garden (very easy to grow), I am using the flowers to add colour to lettuce salads. They add also a peppery taste.

Yes, here in the Philippines, there's this one restaurant that serves rose and orchids petals as an entree to their guests. According to the people who was being interviewed by the reporter of the popular show here, those flowers tastes good plus it gave much nutrients and unique dining experience to those who tasted it. I never knew that those two flowers were edible till I saw that show. I wish I could try it out for my self as well in the future. Have a nice day ahead!

I remember I was stuck to a place were there are no restos and bars. Only a small eatery. But quite impressive because of the aesthetics and the chandelier. I was surprised when they gave me the menu and they are serving different kinds of flower. I forgot some. But, what I love is the rose salad. That's really great.

Yes, there are some flowers that are really edible. Like the santan here in the Philippines and roses too. I was quite shocked by it when I saw my classmates eating the petals of a rose- but it really was edible; never knew there were more flowers...

You're lucky because you had a garden to plant vegetables and flowers. I always dream that I also have a garden like that. But I can't. I'm living in a rent room. I want to plant orchid flowers but I'm afraid that they may be stolen. So, I can't plant them.
