I was asleep then my cat wanted out of the room and the door was closed. He will scratch and scratch and slightly bang the door in the process of scratching. So I get up and get him out of there and realize I can't get back to sleep. It's been several hours now. I've been on here and other places online to pass the time, tried to curl up but just tossed and hoping to settle down again soon. Though I'm finally starting to yawn as I look @ the clock & cringe at the amt of sleep I've lost. Though I guess atleast I was making a few pennies posting here.
How do you handle the nights where something disturbs your sleep and you can't get back to sleep? Do you surf the net? do chores? just lay there? listen to music? read a book?

WECOME TO MY WORLD!!! That was what I thought when I read this! I usually sleep 2-3 hours then I am AWAKE for the next 4or 5!!!! Then sleep till 8am! Thats going to bed at 11.
I clean house, do laundry, get on mylot. Sometimes I just do a little, sometimes I do a lot. I hate that waking up. But no matter what I just can't sleep. I read somewhere, a long time ago, that the best thing to do when this happens is to get up and do something, so thats what I do.

I go in spurts like what you describe except I'm only up maybe 2-3 hrs.... that started for me when I was pegnant with my oldest. I'd be up in the middle of the nigh arranging her nursery or surf the net. Now I just surf the net as it's a quiet activity and why not make a few pennies on myLot while one is at it ;0)

I haven't been as enthused since I went to work 5 years ago. I couldn't afford then not to get the sleep, so if I did wake up, I would lay still, at least I was resting. Hated thoase days when I had to be up at 5! Righ noow I mostly sleep throuhg the night, so I am enjoying the sleep while I can.

I get up and take something that will help me sleep (chamomile tea for instance) and then surf or something until I'm tired...

I hate it when I'm awakened during the night and can't fall back asleep. I usually end up on the computer, checking my e-mail. Or I'll turn on the TV and watch another rerun of that night's Sportscenter. Reading used to work, but not so much anymore.

I normally don't sleep more than a few hours each night. I don't know why, but I have been like that for years. I do, however, take a nap for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours during the day, so at least I do manage to get about 5 hours of sleep total for the day. I will do the laundry in the middle of the night, which I actually do more laundry at night than during the day. I will also clean the house, all except for vacuuming, as I don't want to wake up the rest of the house. I almost always go to the grocery store in the middle of the night as well, and just about everyone at our local Wal-Mart knows me on a first name basis, as I grocery shop at like 3:00 a.m. I wish I could sleep like a "normal" person, but I just can't manage to sleep as long as I would like to.

Hiya 3snuggles,
I hope your Cat let´s you sleep a lot more now. I have had nights like that too when you cannot get back to sleep because of one thing and another.
In the end I get out my Walkman put some chill out music on and go to sleep with that on. For me it works maybe for others it won´t.
If I were to get up like that I would not be able to sleep at all afterwards. I have tried it too and it does not work for me.

It has not happened to me in a long time. What I used to do would be go downstairs, where no one sleeps and turn on the weather channel in one room, just so I can hear repetitive noise, and then stretch out in the recliner. It seemed to put me to sleep really quickly. Going online will actually wake you up and reset your body clock to wake you up the next night as well. I think young parents, especially Moms tend to miss a lot of sleep.

That happens to me a lot. I wake up for no reason and can't sleep. If I've gotten to sleep in the first place, that is. When I can't sleep I'll read a book. I get aggravated sometimes because I'm so tired but sleep won't come.
If I went downstairs to the computer I'd definitely be up all night!
Did you know that being on the computer doesn't help you sleep, it's a hindrance? You're supposed to stop your computer activity at least an hour before you go to bed!

Typically I will just lay there until I manage to fall back asleep. Unless of course there is too much on my mind, which happens occasionally. If I come up with an idea in the middle of the night and can't get it out of my head I might get up and work on it until I'm tired enough to fall asleep. But it's been forever since that happened.

A lot of times I will get up and go online to read until my eyes get tired.
Sometimes, I turn on the light and read for an hour or so.
My husband is real good.....he doesn't anything about turn ing on the lamp.
I hate it when I can't sleep.
I am 43 years old and I am sure a few symptoms of peri-menopause is starting to show...like sleepless nights now and again.
Merry Christmas!

I do just like you and go online. This way I am not disturbing other with any radio noise and or pacing back and forth.
So although I get tired the next day I am a bit more ahead of my scheduled plans with all my online sites. Which myLot is one I can count on to keep me busy.

Mr. Sandman is not in the office hehe. I usually just close my eyes and let my mind do the job. During those sleepless nights, I usually let my imagination work to tire myself. Though I'm already in my late 20s, I still live in the fantasy world. Like I'd like to imagine that I'm a superhero or something like that. I wouldn't notice sometimes that I have already fallen asleep.
