Windows XP takes long time to boot

My windows XP Dell inspiron 1420 takes a long time to boot.
It takes totally 6 minutes to boot.
After 3 minute, i see the desktop wall paper , but it takes 3 more minute to completely load .
Note that the machine had Windows Vista when i got it shipped from Dell.

I could help with this problem:)is it like this when u first got it form the dealership or this problem is from using long time

hi maybe many apps start up when your xp loads
to configure that type msconfig in run there in start up tab uncheck all the useless software and see whether that helps
