It seems that everyone is out asking for your money over the Christmas Holidays. I normally do not donate because I give through out the year. The one exception is the Salvation Army and their bell ringers. My mother was born during WWI and she had 2 uncles serving in France. When she was born the family asked the Red Cross to notify the two Uncles, both serving in France. They said their policy was to only notify the father of a birth. The Salvation Army did take the message to them. That is why my mother always gave to the Salvation Army at Christmas. In her memory and for the good work they do I continue her tradition of giving. When shopping I always have change with me to place in the Red Buckets.
Do you have a have a Christmas giving story that you can share with all of us?

I give a lot during the year, and have tried to teach my family to do the same. It began when they were little. With birthdays at Thanksgiving time, I always let them spend the money they received as gifts but also had them buy toys for toys for tots with a small portion of it.

My granddaughter has toys that she has not opened. For the last two years she has had a birthday where her friends bring gifts one year for the Humane Society and another year she asked her friends to bring their favoriate breakfast food or snack for the local food pantry. I have never seen children have so much fun at a birthday party. She got to open presents and then she got to share with others.

I've gotten into the habit of giving to the paralyzed veterans now, especially since a lot of guys and gals are coming back from Afghanistan with spinal injuries. They sacrifice themselves to keep us safe, so I donate what little I have. I like the Salvation Army, too.

I'm not really the giving person when it comes to holidays but i try my best to give some. Nowadays you should learn how to be practical even when you're giving something away. The past month, i gave my supervisor a going-away gift before i resigned and luckily enough, i recieved a call from him saying about a new job opening at a sister company and he was more than willing to walk me in for the final interview. As i've said, whenever i'm giving, it should always matter or, in short, i try to be as practical as i can. :)

my family is Chinese. therefore, on Chinese new year, we give out red packets to the old folks in the old folks' home. it may seem as a small gesture but actually there is so much behind it. to the Chinese, red packets symbolises care, love , appreciation and respect. these old folks' have been dumped by their unfilial children and we take pity on them. the most we can do is actually to give them the red packets as donating to the home will only lead to them eating the money up for their own benefit. on Christmas though, we just sleep. haha.
