Greed is an inherent attribute of an average person. No matter the amount of wealth and money one possesses,an average person craves more and more than what he or she needs for his or her personal and family need.In the period of growing material prosperity,a person feels greedy for acquiring still more than what he or she has already accumulated. What does really drive a person to feel greed even at his or her most peak period of material prosperity?

A history of lacking something. If a person thinks that they are going to lacking something then he could become greedy. Material prosperity is what, to ones self it is riches beyond belief or just able to pay the bills. We become greedy if we feel stifled in reaching this. Past history of being poor or lacking in some way could make a person greedy.

According to Mahatma Gandhi, Nature has every thing for our need. But it has nothing for our greed. Greedy way of life is thus quite unnatural and it has created persisting poverty in the society, because of accumulation of black money by corrupted people as well as misutilisation of funds. Greed, though it can never be totally avoidable, but we must deal with it very rationally and aim our extra money for some useful and productive aspect in our personal levels! Thanks and let greed to be minimized from us in this new year, 2011!!

Hi narayan2006! I feel that greed can consume a person's mind. They want to have more but having more is never enough for them. I once knew a guy whose life was great until his friend introduced him to sports gambling. As a few weeks go by, money was rolling into his pocket everyday but his luck turned. When he lost, he bet even bigger on the next one. The bet amount became more and more by the week as he was determined to win all his losses back. When his bank account ran dry, he turned to loansharks. He kept losing more and more and when it was time to pay the loan sharks; he couldn't because he lost everything he had borrowed.

If a person gets more, he changes his lifestyle. He then has inadequate money to fulfill his wish. He prays for even more. So this is a cumulative process. Its mainly the surroundings or environment which drives a person to feel greed.
