Seperate Plates?

Oh, I just don't get it, my daughter and husband can not eat different foods all on the same plates!! Say like if it were peas and carrots, they both have to be in a seperate plate and same goes for if it were mashed potatoes and corn! What is up with that? They say they don't like their food touching the other food I think that is just stupid but I guess each to their own. I am sorry but when I eat I say pile it all on one plate, bring it on!! L.O.L. Do you have to have your food seperated?

I don't mind when there's different food in my plate touching, but I admit that tastes mix when that happens, and some people dislike the result of the mixed taste. In my case it depends. For example chicken made in some specially liquid sauce and fried potatoes in the same dish will result in the fried potatoes tasting bad, so I avoid that, but probably it's the only time when I do mind -and I always end up eating both in the same plate anyway -.

That kinda makes sense, I personally don't like gravy because it ruins the flavor of the veggies on the plate.

I am guilty of this. :(
I do not want certain foods to touch one another. I prefer to have some separate plates, but not for everything. Certain foods are ok if they touch, like mashed potatoes and corn or green beans, that's ok even if there is gravy on the potatoes. If I am eating fried chicken I don't want anything to touch it. I want it on a separate plate. If I'm having fish it cannot touch anything else. If I have a salad it has to be on a plate all by itself. I don't want anything to touch my bread. If I have fried potatoes they must be on a separate plate. Catsup cannot be on the same plate as my french fries, it goes in a small dish alone, then I can dip the fries into the catsup one at a time. These are just a few examples, there are many others.
It may seem stupid to some but it's very important to me when I eat. I don't know why, it has always been that way.
My nephew eats all of his food separately. Only one thing at a time on his plate. Vegetables first then potatoes or rice, whichever it may be. Then, always, his meat last.
I also cannot put my dessert onto the same plate I just finished eating my meal from. Must be a clean plate.
Everybody has some strange quirk in their lives. It may not matter to you if your food touches or not but you probably have some other strangeness about you. It's the same thing. Just different ;)

well that is very wasting the plates. and i will complaining when washing the dirty dishes. and i guess that would not friendly too for the environment.
many water would be waste and many detergent would be waste too.
i try to save everything because for the environment--not for the money

hmm..for me, that depends on the situation. If it's a typical buffet where friends just dine together, then a full plate is alright. However, if the occasion is a sumptuous dinner with special people or a private event, then maybe having only 2-3 different types of food on the plate would do.

Well, I am only separating desserts from a new plate after eating meals. But with food other than dessert, I can put it in the same plate.I think your daughter and husband is very much vain when it comes to eating. Well, all of us are vain in some things.

i find this a little strange really, this would cause so much cooking and so much washing up if they do not want the foods to touch eachother. You are supposed to really eat your foods together not seperatly, and all the food goes into the same hol so i do not see why they are like this, but i am sure that we all have our little perks really.

Wow that is very strange. I guess what they need to do is have plates that have seperate sections so the food will not mix. When I was young I hated certain food touching like fruit juice from fruit getting into my bread or mashed potatoes things like that. But as far as corn and potatoes go that doesnt bother me at all most the time I mix them together because it makes it taste so good. If they come to your house and do that then just ask them to wash the dishes in between each round of food so you arent doing a million dishes by the time they are done eating. This is strange what they do but hey everyone has their quirks right lol.

Yeah, salad should be on a separate plate but that's it.

Yes, rice is served on a different plate as well as food. Each dish is obviously separated to another. But one thing that we don't separate when eating is when hubby and I eat, we share only one plate and eat using only the same plate.
It has been our practice ever since we are married. I got used of the normal Indian way of eating using hands. Well to each its own as you may say. But it saves me from washing too many dishes at the same time it is our bonding moment. Every time I prepare meals, we do sit on our table, pray before eating and use one plate as both of us share what happened the whole day. I suggest this also for couples, it makes a good bonding moment.

I think that some people just enjoy being picky. Of course there are certain foods that do not mix well. However more plates me less room for me to maneuver and that is just not good. Still I don't bother eating things that I would not like to mix. Perhaps that is the smart thing to do. However that could just be. It does all end up in the same place and both enters your body and leaves it in the same general way.

I hate when runny food touches the dry food on my plate and makes it soggy.. I absolutly hate that! I don't have to have it on seperate plates but it does irratate me and I only can eat one thing at a time. For example if I have potatos and beans on my plate I eat all my potatos first the eat the beans.. I can eat some potatos then eat beans then eat some more potatos.. I don't know why but that's how I've always ate.. my dad often makes fun of me for it.. he says it's all going to the same place and my response is yes but it doesn't taste good going down if it's mixed lol.

I've heard of people who don't like their food touching. But wouldn't it be worth wild for them to buy divided plates? We've found some plastic ones as well as nice corning ones @ the outlet. Hubby like those kind but he's not touchy about thing like your daughter is. I'd say look into plates like that for them save money on doing so many dishes.
I'm like you unless it's something that would taste funny togeather,,,, heap it on! I love mashed potatoes with butter, corn & peas on top, I couldn't imagine washing 3 plates instead of 1.

Merry Christmas to you too!
I hope if you eat over you don't volunteer to do the dishes EVER! But if they eat over @ your place that they do yours since it'll be not just 2 more but several more for you to wash.

L.O.L. I tried that and it did not work but they can make their own 2 or three plates and wash them too themselves!! Good Luck to them because I don't want to do that anymore! I could stand the meat loaf and mashed potatoes and peas touches pile it up!! Have a good day and have a Merry Christmas!

What a pain that would be! You would need four plates each for three meat and veg! I quite like some foods mixing together actually! I cannot say anyone in my family does that thankfully! My daughter likes to eat the topping off the pizza and then the crust so everyone has strange habits I guess...

Well when eating, I like to eat different dishes separately, I mean, I don't like to mix potatoes with salad or meat, I eat them one at a time. But that doesn't mean that I demand them to be served on separate plate. The only requirement from me is that the dishes should not be put together (except meat and salad or potatoes). I finish one dish, then load the same plate with another dish and so on. I hope you've got the point, my English is not perfect.

I would suggest that you have them be responsible for washing ALL dishes, not just their own, but ALL THE DISHES. when they realize that it actually builds up and they really can't justifiably say, "well it is just a couple more dishes to be washed". then, they might change their minds about how their food is looking on one plate.

I certainly do not mind having all on one plate but like them neatly separated on the same dish. This way if I find I do not like something then I will not eat it and won't ruin the flavor of the others.
