generally speaking around here turkey or ham (or both) are offered at Christmas
My mom almost always did turkey because she cooked ham several times a year.
I do, however, know a family that has had goose in the past, don't know if they still do it tho.

Have never had goose for Christmas or any other meal. Over here the saying is probably, 'Christmas is coming the turkey is getting fat'. Our family is pretty democratic about Christmas dinner. We put it to a vote, and that's what we have. This year we're having a smoked turkey. Last year is was lasagna. One year the vote did backfire. The family voted for take out pizza, but found there were not any pizza restaurants open...we ended up with Chinese take out.
What are you having? Are you sticking to your diet for the day, or having a real holiday? Hope it's Merry!

Hey my favorite British Gent (or fishy-whatever!),
First let me wish you and "The Boss" a Merry Christmas and a very
Happy and Healthy New Year! (Same for the little Pikey too)!
I remember that rhyme very well! It was one of my favorites~
When I read your discussion it gave made me smile, thanks for
that! My Christmas meal has sort of gotten canceled in a way. I
was going to have a friend over with me and the bf, but I have
been down with the flu (after bf recovered) and not quite myself
yet. I doubt you remember my last Christmas fiasco of the "Rancid
Christmas Turkey Discussion" where I had to throw the bird out
and me, bf and gf had Chinese Food for Christmas Dinner and loved
it! Well, me and bf are going on with the "new tradition" and
having "Chinese Food" for Christmas! It's my favorite and I'm
thrilled! I had a fight with my best friend so she is dis-invited,
long story-don't care! Enjoy your Christmas! Love, Les

Merry Christmas my friend!
It is Christmas morning here, the rest of the house is still sleeping, so I snuck on here briefly.
We are having raw vegan pancakes with raw vegan ice cream for breakfast later. I will probably have something soon as I am getting hungry. A pre breakfast snack maybe. As for a special lunch or dinner...not today. Today we are leaving on our road trip and will be in a cabin in a caravan park tonight eating the leftovers of a Mexican lentil dish from last night.
Hope you have an enjoyable holiday season!

Happy new Year P1key!
I am back from my restful holiday and ready to get back into the action here!
The pancakes I was referring to are not your regular pancakes, but pretty delicious and a lot healthier. They are "raw" as they are made from raw ingredients and heated gently in a dehydrator around or below 41 degrees Celsius or 105 Fahrenheit. This allows them to set like a regular pancake. Anything heated under those temperatures are still considered raw and anything over is considered cooked.
We did not end up eating them though as they went in too late and we had to leave for our trip so they were left for our house sitter to eat. He loved them!

I am Puerto Rican so roasted pork will be served at our dinner. Yum.. Although a few guests are not Puerto Rican they certainly will be licking their fingers..

We seem to be having lots of meat this year. Me and Mr Croc thought we were going to have our very first Christmas together without any other family. with that in mind, and neither of us really liking turkey, we decided to have a nice piece of beef. Then we found that youngest and family were staying here, she likes turkey, he likes pork and gammon. There will also be pigs in blankets. I don't think we'll want meat for at least a month after.
Yorkshire puds, roast and mashed spuds and veg. will complete the meal.
As usual cooking all morning and eating all afternoon.
Hope you enjoy your 'diet' Christmas.
Take care.

We eat turkey here in the U.S., I think because the early settlers saw more turkeys than they did geese! Ham is good but my family and friends mostly serve turkey. I always get sent home with lots of leftovers and have a lot of good meals from that!
I tried to cook a goose once for my very first boyfriend. I ruined it because I cooked it like a turkey. There was a LOT of grease and yucky stuff and it didn't turn out well at all!

I have never had goose. The few times my mother-in-law has made it, I haven't been able to be there. Usually we make turkey, but sometimes ham. The mother-in-law has also been in the habit of making rouladen for Christmas (yum).

I´m coming to this after the Christmas goose is well and truly cooked and eaten. However, in my house it was a duck. A very tasty duck, the scraps of which will provide the basis of this evening´s meal too.
Until Christmas morning it was quacking away in my animal shed, and I have to say that it was very nice to know it´s origins rather than buying something from the butcher or (worse!) the supermarket.

Hi P1key,
The last time I've eaten goose was when my Mum used to cook it when all the family are around and giving their experties on how to cook it best, but now we just have turkey and this year I am home alone on the day so I will be cooking my turkey on the 28th, Merry Cristmas and a Bright New Year to you, love and hugs always.

My inlaws do a beef tenderloin, and since we are spending the holidays with them this year, that is what we will be having. My mother in law does not eat meat regularly, so she will be making a mushroom of some kind.
At my parents, the odd years, we have both turkey and ham.

I'm gonna make a massive snowman out of organic tofu and then cover it with a foie gras crust! My reasoning here is that I may seem rebellious on the outside, but on the inside I'm pure and have great intentions. Then again, that all sounds like too much work. If I can get hold of some, I reckon I'll just have bacon.

Bacon? And make a pig of yourself no doubt. LOL. The simple idea of tofu, that bland bean curd, or is it "been curd", monstrosity that is so often made to look like meat by the evry people that object to others eating the animal products. Only fit for sculpting. Do your worst sir. Have a Merry Christmas and don't get sunburned!

I honestly don't know of anyone who has ever had goose for Christmas. I think possibly my mother did growing up, but they lived on farms and had quite a variety of fowl to choose from, but I don't remember her ever saying. For sure I never have. If it's anything like duck, I never will. We didn't have anything special at all for Christmas this year or last year, but I don't mind having turkey two months in a row.

I've tried many times in my life to go vegetarian but I just cannot give up the meat. I enjoy it far too much! This year for the Yule we had a hickory smoked spiral ham, along with baked green beans w/onions, corn, cranberries, sweet potatoes, and crescent rolls. For dessert we had apple pie with ice cream. Very yummy indeed. We ended up celebrating our Yule celebration this last weekend because the husband has to work all week. We had a delightful time and the children received all the gifts they had asked for. We were very blessed this year.
