I like french fries and eat lot of them, the main reason is that they are quick and easy to prepare. I am concern about the health effects of the food, since they are made of/from the potato I am not sure if they should or should not be consider a vegetable. I have watched reports that said that the are not a vegetable. The report was on weight and health issue, I do not have a weight problem or any serious health issues. It was probably stated because the french fries are a fried food and fried is consider bad for you. What are your thoughts?

Potato is a tuber or root crop, now back to French fries, what makes it bad is the oil from frying, if you cannot prevent consuming fries, use a good quality vegetable oil, do not forget to drain excess oil after frying and wipe it off with good quality paper towel

But it is still a vegetable, right? I love french fries. I just don't consume much because I know I'll get fat fast. I agree that the oil makes it unhealthy. Isn't it that they use potato as staple food in other countries?

Right, I think Germans and Irish eat potato as staple, maybe members from those countries,or other countries I did not mention are more in a position to answer your query

It is a vegetable stuff but since it is fried using oil, it has unsaturated fatty acids and so it has little bit cholesterol contents. But, having this fry occasionally and little quantity it wont harm health. Whatever it is, food control is the best for one's own health.

Actually potato is a root crop but in general it is a vegetable. Actually there are kinds of vegetables similar to potato like carrots, it is also a root crop. The word vegetable is a General term.
Potato is good for our health so if you want to cook a french fries, be sure you use natural potato. Do not use french fries from the market because it contains preservatives already. One thing that makes french fries unhealthy is the oil. Use olive oil in cooking. So I hope my response is helpful.

i definately don't consider french fries to be vegetables. its weird because i definately consider potatoes to be a vegetable. but i also think they are starch. this is contradictary i know...but whatever. anyway, my main rreason for believing french fries are not vegetables is because vegetables are supposed to be good for you. french fries are definately no good for you. they are full of fat and often have salt sprinkled on them when they are ordered in restaurants. but to avoid the health problems that can come from eating french fries, maybe you should just try eating baked fries.

Everything i have read or heard about french fries is that they are not good for you. I love french fries too but try to have them only once in a while. I think they are bad because as you stated they are a fried food. Isn't it funny that so many of the foods that taste really good for you are bad for you. I love fried chicken but obviously that is bad for you too. I would say enjoy your french fries but maybe not so often.

Speaking of french fries, these kind of food is made up of potato and we all know that potato is a very rich carbohydrate vegetables. If you eat a lot of french fries it just the same that you are eating a lot of rice. Another factor to consider is the oil that you have used in frying the fries. It could be better if you are going to use vegetable oils. Do not use hydrogenated oils.
