Meaningless life !!!

Has it ever happened to you that the life seems meaningless and all the goals that your mind wants to achieve, are of no use to your heart and no matter what you try, you end up screwing up everything (relationships, career etc)? If yes, how did you manage such situation? If No, what would you suggest to someone whose life is like this for more than a decade?

Hi, Life sometime feels meaningless when we are not committed to anything in particular. The evryday hectic life has made all of us thinking that we are living a meaningless life. But that is not the case. If one becomes positive in whatsoever he/she takes interest and sees that the thing undertaken has been well accomplished life would be full of fun. It’s as if we purposely overload ourselves with more things than we could possibly ever accomplish. Sometimes as I’m going to sleep I think about all the things I need to get done and when I’m awake during the day I think about all the things that need to get done. Take a shower, make coffee, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, go to work, etc… It’s almost as if at the end of the day I can truly ask myself, “where did the day go?” Enough of these and I can ask myself the same questions in weeks, months, or even years!

krajibg, I must say, I do have commitments in my life. It's not just hectic life that has made me think like this. People who know me personally, they wouldn't have imagined even in their dreams that, I can be so much worried about my life. People look at me as one of the happiest person, often I used to get comments from my friends, you've nothing to worry and you don't take tension. What you have described, even my brain thinks like that and my body does it all the time. I am successful (in general, the way people think) and I have achieved something that I dreamed 10 years back but the problem is, I achieved these things at the cost of my "happiness". It's very complex situation and if I've to explain it to you, I would say, think of someone who is suffering from cold and cough, doctor suggests him a tonic, obviously, the patient will take the dose of this tonic so that he can get relief. In my case, I was the doctor as well as the patient and the tonic that I suggested to myself, was expired, as a side effect of that I've lost the "Happiness" of my life. Thanks for your response, krajibg. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!

Hi, Really interesting discusion. I agree with krajibg, life sometimes feels meaningless when we are not committed to anything particular. I think, we should set up new goal when we have achieved one. It is wonderful if we have a dream in our heart. We can feel times flying, we are busy but happy. That's my experience. Dear dollar3235, Please forgive me, i think you are a wise but unhappy man. I can't understand your word"I achieved these things at the cost of my happiness", you mean you spend too much time on work so less time for family? Anyway, i hope you can be happy everyday!

Do you believe in God? Before I answer I need to know this. Without God in our life, life has no meaning. No matter what one achieves they will always be empty and unfulfilled. There will always be an empty spot that can never be filled.

We have to find the real, true God not some nonsense contrived by superstitious ignorant people. That will make all the difference. Do you really want to find Him?

Sometimes I feel so. Then I discard such spirit. It's harmful for us. I then just live my life again. No matter what will happen in the future. I just believe in each step I take. I believe that God arrange anything about me. That's the way it is. By reminding that, I am now be more spirited. No day without collecting new spirit!

Last year I watched my son die. He was just 19, he looked much younger due to his disabilities. I have been through one of the worst nightmares any parent can go through. I watched him on life support for 10 days before that and seen the shock on his face just after they brought him back after he coded. (when his heart stopped the first time). My suggestion to you? Find out if you can go to a children's cancer floor and volunteer? My little guy didn't have cancer, he had a newly diagnosed heart enlarged heart and it was too late to help him. Maybe by volunteering on a children's cancer floor or a place something like that, you will feel you made a difference and also see how different life CAN be? Just a thought. Have a good holiday season if you celebrate it?

Very good suggestion! I dont think anyone who has volunteered will ever feel life is meaningless but yes they may feel a bit sad from the experience. But charity work is the best satisfaction giving work. Making money by working hard has hardly ever satisfied people. Nor are they happy with the work nor do they ever feel they have earned enough ever. And finally everything starts feeling meaningless.

"Burgandy0083", I've no words for your situation. All that comes to my mind, if I have to be "God", will I do it, even to my enemies? That's why I loose my faith, if "God" exists in this world, why does he take away the most precious thing of our life and leaves us here with no motive to live and this world expects us to be happy? In your case, you would have certainly helped him, you would have tried to maximum extent possible and whatever has happened, you can say it was destiny. I know "Pain" will be there, no matter what you do, no money or anything else can be compared with even 1 second that you spend with your loved one. Last year, I got a chance to be in hospital with one of my friend's dad. He was admitted in Hospital for heart surgery. It was a critical case, my friend's family members were very very nervous, I feel much more lucky to be able to help them in that situation. I was in hospital for 6-7 days for 24 hours, I tried my best to help him in that situation just like his own son, whether it was arranging blood or helping him to take bath just after a few days of operation with all the stitches on his body, I did everything. Luckily now the operation was successful and he has recovered very well. I would say, Yes, it was a satisfactory experience. Still I would say, when you realize that "happiness" is not your cup of tea, that certainly affects your life. Thanks a lot for replying "Burgandy0083" and "greet123". Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Thanks for the reply, zenkey23. It's good that you have faith and strong determination and that's what helps you in managing yourself in such tough situations. However, in my case, I've lost the faith and determination is obviously not strong. That's why sometimes it's very tough, still I manage myself most of the times.

Seems like you simply do not understand life. Screw ups aren't bad. They teach us much more than any other thing in life. You must be getting pretty smart by now. Life is about learning and growing as people, not only for you but for those in your life. See, it's not always about you. Life has a way of placing you where you need to be.Stop fighting it. Look for the open doors. Make a list of what you want to do. Have a problem?? Overcome it. Seek out people who are already doing what you want for advice. Choose that the goodness is more important than the doom and gloom. Make it about others. Give love and kindness to everyone you meet. Help those you can and encourage those you can't. You will be a success in your life. Stop being a victim!!! Realize this world needs that which is special about you TODAY!!! You are meant to make a difference in this world. I believe in you!!!

yup, came across this feeling a thousand times. i fight it, cous you know what solution we get at such times, its to end this life. i care about people around me, who are obviously gonna get affected if i leave. so NO! i don't think of dying now. i fight whenever i feel down. thats a temporary feeling, hold on alright! you have this life and for free. make something out of it. if the world is hopeless, you are not. you have the power! believe it or not, change what you don't like, leave if you cant change. find the things you really like and that matter to you. think of what you were like as a kid. i dont believe you never had a dream. dream now, discover, and please stop expecting. whoever gave you this life, didnt owe you anything, its for free!! absorb yourself alright. don't sit still,it'll eat your head. get in routine, like the one you were in as a kid. exercise , stay fit so that you can live enough to find endless possibilities of life. dont stick to stereotypes of life, there is more..live ok ^^ just live , living doesnta lway mean enjoying, its experiencing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have experienced this before over and over and i know how to get out of this useless state. It's as simple as when you're doing something wrong, try something else and if doesn't work, find something else, until you find something that works. Life is too precious to just throw away by just giving up. There are a lot of options out there no matter how many you've tried already.

Ah.... those words "useless state" describe my situation to some extent. After typing a few comments in this discussion, I am feeling bad about myself, it could be due to the fact that, it is the first time I am trying to discuss my problem....it could also be possible that this discussion will help me to tackle this problem in future. In one line if I have to explain my problem, I am unable to try the "hit and trial" method. I think by knowing more about myself and I will be able to get a solution to this problem. Thanks for your response, frontvisions101. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!!

I could lament, but I won't, but I do identify with the feeling. It does feel like I'm not doing anything good enough. Right now I am learning about myself, and trying to change my old ways. The only thing I can say is to learn from our mistakes, and try and figure out what you can do in the future. The only advise I can give is to become self-aware and to face your demons as early in life as possible. Live with the Golden Rule as your model. And try not to be so hard on yourself, as there are always going to people that will be dissatisfied with you anyway. You can only be the best you can. These sounds like "pretty words" but...I've worked for years to become self-aware and faced my own demons. I strive to live according to the Golden Rule. I know it doesn't sound like much. Wishing you (and myself) the best in our future endeavours.

Masihi, I appreciate your meaningful suggestions. I've read your response 8-10 times so that I can reply. In my life, I don't care what others (most of them) have to think of me. A few people whom I care, they think that I am correct and doing every thing perfectly. As far as self awareness is concerned, I think yesterday when I was thinking about my problems, I felt, I've not discussed it with anyone, it's been within for more than 10 years now, I thought myLot will be the perfect place to discuss it and now I feel I was right. By writing these comments in this discussion, I am trying to portray the demons of my own. All of you who have replied to this discussion, are certainly helping me to face the demons of my life. Thanks a lot for your response, Masihi. As per your suggestions, I am trying to be more self-aware and face the demons of my life. Wish you a Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!!!

Hi dollar3235, It happens to almost all the human beings who are alive and struggling to come up in life, never think that you are alone and thrown away. It happens with most of us. We continuously keep failing in every aspect and every day. We end up with losses, but my friend you can change this and you can make your life straight again it is all in your hands.. It happens with me even now, my sincere advice to you is never get discouraged and disheartened. God has send us all on to this with a purpose. Just believe that you have a purpose for being born. Each one of us is born with a purpose. First of all I suggest you. 1. Keep trying and never give up. 2. If a failure occurs, find out the reason for your failure and try to correct it. 3. Love your goal like your girl friend. 4. Stick to your goal. 5. Do not keep changing your goals if you fail. 6. Have a commitment and dedication towards your goals. 7. Divide your long term goal into short term goals and keep achieving each one of them Ex: If you want to earn $100,000 in a year divide in to 12 months, the first month may be around $3000 second would be $5000 all the short term goals summing up to your long term goal. If you could practice the above I am sure success will follow you undoubtedly. Cheer up you are born to win. Happy Living Calpro

Life is meaningful. As long as you think that yesterday is past, presence is the fact, and tomorrow is hope...... Always think that tomorrow must must be better than today and yesterday, it will make your life more meaningful. Take a look yourself in the mirror, what have I done this day? What you have done to other people? Good or bad? How can I fix if I'm bad? How can I continue if good. That's all you have to do to make your life is meaningful.

You seem to be in a very depressed state. Cheer up and look at the brighter sides of your life. I have faced many difficulties earlier in my life. I have faced them all. They made me a much stronger person than I was.

Do try to enjoy everything in life. From the smallest things to the biggest. Search and find small pleasures which fill you with happiness. The happiness and pleasure may come from work, play, people, places, food, anything. Once you find them and start indulging in them life does seem very enjoyable and meaningful.
