The important thing that I have found is writing EXACTLY the words that the professors are looking for. Sometimes, that is very hard for me to do, but if it is an interesting subject, than it gets easier. So, for example, if you are studying about international business, and have to mention key words, or topics, like the foreign exchange rate, then you want to make sure those key things are mentioned.
Also, write clearly, with great grammar and spelling, and you should do well. It sucks to lose points for things like grammar and syntax, so get someone to check it out (if you need it), and edit it, so that you don't lose points for that. Good luck!

If no specific subject was prescribed or given regarding the term paper, it is always best to to make one that's in line with your interest, could be a regular thing you do already such as a hobby.
If it's a thesis term paper, work around the thesis, could be a theory that you want to prove, or simply just expounding and exploring the main subject, also see to it that the thesis and the main title and the body supplement and compliment each other.
Learn to foot note (ibid., locit. etc...)or site references, it will make the term paper credible and would impress everybody who reads it including your professor
Good luck

Its a bit hard to give someone tips on a paper if we don't know what the class is. I don't think you should write a paper on nuclear reactions if you are in an art class. SO it depends what the paper needs to be about for what class. I can't exactly help you with a paper if I have no idea what the paper needs to be about.
