After this post I'll go to school for my doctoral degree English test. Though in China, Christmas is not as important as in western countries, but I still can't understand why it should be in Cristmas Day. Even expressing irony more, the test is an English test... is it anything related on western culture?

I know. Students would protest strongly if they did so. Just like if they put an exam in the Spring Festival in China.

You are right that the Christmas is not an official festival in our country. Namely you don't have a day off and everything is still like the normal days. Since this kind of exams are usually on Saturday and Sunday. And this year the Christmas is on Saturday. So this is only a coincidence for you to have an exam on this festival. I love China

hi qianyun6 congratulations you soon will be graduated . Yes C hristmas day is an odd time for a doctoral degree English test. You will be sure to ace it from all appearances.I don't know'if it is anything related to Western Culture. Here in the US all closes down on Christmas day as we all go home to our families and enjoy C hristmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New year too.

Hi, Hatley! Merry Christmas! I don't know what thing is like in the US, but this is only the first step in my way to get my PhD degree. This is our first year. We are gathered together to finish all our courses and exams. The follow four years we'll work for our own supervisor in our institute, publish enough papers and finish our degree thesises. At last we can get our degrees. Are PhDs in the US do their exams in the last year? Anyway, I really don't know why an English exam can be in this day.

Can't tell you the reason, why has been Christmas day chosen as a date for an exam, but all I can say is that it's not good to go on an exam on such day. I would prefer to stay at home with my family and friends instead of going to school or work.

I think nobody will like an exam in Christmas Day. Though it's not so important in China, but at least it is a festival.

I mean that, may be the officers in the department of foreign languages want to let us remember this day, so they choose it. That's really bad!

To me it sounds a little strange to have an exam on Christmas Day. I have never experienced that situation. In my country schools are closed during christmas and there are no exams. When I was a nursing student, I sometimes had to spend my christmas holiday on studying, because we had exams in the beginning on January, but the exams never took place on Christmas Day or between Christmas or New Year's Eve.

Hi qianyun: This has never happened to me, in fact here in my country, today is a holiday. Maybe it's just because, as you say, in your country Christmas is not that important. However, I hope that you enjoy your day even if you have to go for this exam. Try to keep the good attitude of Christmas. ALVARO
