Does Meditation leave you Open for Suggestion????

I read an article about hypnosis. It said hypnosis is nothing more than meditation, focus the concious mind inward. This leaves one open for suggestions. I don't see people who meditate walking around acting like chickens but this brings up an interesting point. When people meditate for the first time, do they do it around others who might make suggestions to them?? If you meditate, have you ever done it around others?? It would be interesting to experiment and see how far this would go. Perhaps some of you out there could try it out and see what happens. Let me know.

Meditation .. .well well !! For me, my brain is always flying around here and there. I have 1000 of tasks to do on the go at any one time, a toddler to chase around after, piles of incoming email to go through, my mind is like a shaken snow globe at all times. Meditation has given me a tool to stop this snow globe being shaken and for a short while have stillness. Its like a robot without having a sleep. Ha ha ha In addition, it is also teaching me control of my own mind. Naturally through the day our minds are getting attached to things, especially worries. Here also, Meditation brings another tool. As you become more aware of where your thoughts are, you can choose consciously whether to explore these thoughts constructively or simply go back to focussing on the matter at hand or whatever else. Before meditation my mind would impulsively latch onto various streams of thought. I mean to say, it still does to an extent, but that awareness brings a level of autonomy over my own thoughts that I never had before. Many people think the aim of meditation is to stop thinking. Getting away from the tyranny of thought is great, but learning the art of gently and compassionately bringing your focus back, to the breath or whatever is where I think the true mileage is.

Yes, I can see where that would help lots of people. I wonder whether you are open for suggestion at this point. People under hypnosis aren't aware anyone suggested anything.. Perhaps you could experiment. While in deep meditation, have someone you can trust suggest you are hungry several times. See what happens. It would be very interesting to see if anyhing happens. Thanks for all your comments!!

I see how hypnosis could be considered a form of meditation, it is a form of looking in. However, to even be put under hypnosis, you have to willingly give that person that power. Normally when you meditate, you don't do that. Someone can only have access to your mind if you give it to them. People who don't believe in hypnosis can't be hypnotized. Unless perhaps with some other extreme circumstances going on. You could meditate around whoever; they aren't going to have an access to your mind.

Perhaps you are right. A person unwilling to give control to another would be a roadblock. I just wonder when you have reached a deep state of meditation if you haven't already let your guard down. Perhaps you could experiment with a friend. Let them suggest you are hungry several times while you are in your deepest meditation. Thanks for all your comments!!!

Maybe, but I doubt it.
