Do you think it's fair for citizens to pay taxes if government is corrrupt?

I'm not against the government's law which states that we need to pay our tax obligation according to the amount we earned annually. I also believe government can't survive without taxes because they need enough funds to sustain the project and services they are doing for the country. However, what if just like many of us have observed politicians are corrupt, they keep the money (on their pocket) which is intended for the country's project. If you are one of the biggest ax payer on your country, would you be happy to pay your taxes? Why or why not?

Im not happy paying taxes because they use that money to do things which im totally against. Such as wars. When they could be helping the homeless and hungry. They could help people that need rehabalitation. They could use that money to build solar and/or wind energy. Instead of killing people in neighboring countries for whatever reason. Anyway its the law presently. We dont have a choice they just take it from us. All governments are corrept and is it any wonder considering what the Holy Scriptures say. Since the satin was cast out of heaven the world is under his control. 2Co.4:4; 1Jo.5:19; Re.12:9.

Power corrupts. It happens in every country. I doubt that any government was more corrupt than the Romans during the time of Christ. Yet, Jesus told his disciples to submit unto Caesar what is Caesar when he was asked about paying their taxes.

Well, we don't know about corrupt government. We need to pay taxes to support the government with many services that they have. Because if there is no taxes from the people...the government will collapse and civil disobedient will happen...this is much worst than having a corrupt officials...

In principle your point seems right. The fact is that, even if government is corrupt, without taxes those who are not are unlikely to root out the corrupt. In the UK the biggest tax payer is the working individual. Corporations pay huge sums in tax, but they also write off vast amounts against investments and costing. Some UK companies have registered offices in other countries where taxes are lower so that they can avid UK tax rates. Recently there has been a huge scandal here over the expenses and benefits derived by MPs. Your question also beggars another. Should we pay taxes to incompetent governments?

I think we do not have any other option. If we do not pay the taxes, we will have to pay a fine along with the taxes.Yes i know that many politicians are corrupt but we have to leave everything in God's hands. He will punish them if they are using the country's money for their own pockets.Even government officials have to pay tax to the government. If i was one of the biggest tax payer in the country.I would pay my taxes because i know my money is going for the welfare of my country. With my taxes the retired people receive pension from the government. If an official is corrupt, he would be thrown out of the job and a new sincere official would be appointed.

If I were a big taxpayer ,I would withhold the Taxes as way of leverage ....to change laws and make sure the corrupt people get prosecuted . We have to start reasserting our rights , these people have to be forced to see crime does not pay

Yes this is true, but if we withhold out taxes. We could end up paying a fine for our taxes.Suppose everyone took the same decision of withholding their taxes. The government would be at a very big loss. There would be a time when the corrupt politician deeds would come to light and he would simply have to resign from his job.We can make a complaint at the corruption bureau if we really find a politician doing something wrong.

I think either a citizen like it or not this not the question because being a citizen comes the obligation to contribute for the welfare of his own country to which his countrymen benefit from this. If one knows his obligation there's no reason for anyone to neglect this just because of some corrupt government officials.I go for law-abiding citizens. Remember everyone on earth is subjected to his own deeds,be it good or bad one will get one's due in the right time. For me I always go for what is right even if there are some sacrifices that comes with it but at the end reap the good rewards.

The tax we pay is for creating facilities for the people of the country to lead a comfortable life. If the corrupt politician rule the country, the money goes to the packet of the individual politicians. One should not pay tax instead one should collect strength to throw such politician and should pave a way for the better people to rule the country. Corrupt politician comes to power by bribing the people and he will no have patriotism in his heart and soul. He will ruin the country. I will not be happy to pay tax to the such corrupt politician rules the country.

Of course not!! It's not really fair that we work and they profit. Nevertheless is out civil obligation to do it, corrupt government or not. That's the money that is (should) be used to make the life comfortable to all us, that brings all that infrastructure we surely need and use every day in our lives. Stoping paying it, in fact gives those corrupts an excuse to stop our services and will create a civil disorder and great problems. The great of this is, we can actually fire the corrupts, though our votes.

If i were on of the biggest tax payer on my country, i'll be so glad to pay my taxes, you know why, cozi'll have all the benefits & protection from the government ,lol. But am with you in the fact that corrupt politicians & their families take the most of these taxes in their pockets. Yet, the fact remains, if we don't pay taxes, situations gets worst & worst. We are apying taxes & things is not that good atall, what if we stopped paying ? Things will be disastrous. Buttom line Mayrah, we don't have a choice, we are called a third world for a reason :D, i gess they should rank us as a 1000th world, LOL.

Mayrah, that is a nice question because I had this question for years. I come from a country which is corrupt and does not respect it's citizens. They don't give us proper infrastructure and we lack basic needs like water, electricity, drainage and the list goes on. I hate paying tax to this government because I am sure that only the government gets benefited through my tax money. I am totally against it.

It makes sense for the people to pay some taxes. For some expenses like supporting a military or maintaining a highway system, there is probably not a better way. That is fine, but as government grows and becomes more corrupt, the people see practically unlimited instances of wasted money. It is entirely possible that if the waste and corruption was cut from government, taxes could probably be cut in half. But if government is quite comfortable being corrupt, and those in power have not desire to change things, it is very hard for the people to make change happen. So the corruption and waste continues to grow, and that is not a happy story.

Hi mayrah:) I would not be happy to pay my taxes if I were one of the biggesy tax payers in my country. I can see that goverments are not necessarily doing things that are good for citizens. Sometimes they are more willing to do things which are welcomed by large corporations. Large corporations has enough money to give some money to candidates when it comes to election of new president or new government. Candidates has to take this money to buy commercials. It costs nowadawys to win election. Sad but true. So after they took some money from large corporation they can't simply just forget about it. Maybe if I were really rich I'd give some of my money to candidates and than, after they won an election I'd visit them for some "good lobbying":). It is not so bad idea. Goverments are lobbyed by large corporation and it has some bad effects to society and to enviroment. So why not to be a good lobbyist - who pays a lot so they have to at least listen to him. I could do an anti-lobbying for large corporations. Unfortunately, I am not rich so I won't be a good lobbyist. It's a pity. Have a nice day, jazgottt.

If the government corrupted internally, should we pay taxes as an average citizen? Maybe we shouldn't pay as much as they wanted. Our tax money simply goes to the pocket of those corrupted politicians, don't you think? They might just steal those money and deposit them to foreign banks, or offshore banking account somewhere else. So, what you earn that you think you contribute for the country to do our own good, actually making those dirty politicians much richer.

No matter what corruption is anywhere in the world. If you are the biggest tax payer it means you have huge businesses either the government is corrupt or not..You have to pay. Of course I won't be happy because they steal the money that is supposedly for country project which I should be enjoying. But do you think I can do something? nope!

Regardless of the government, citizens are expected to pay taxes. While it is unfair to do so if the government is corrupted, it is impossible to stop. Cos once it is stopped, the next upright government will have a hard time reinstating it without facing the wrath of the citizens. So a better choice is to boot the corrupt government out and replace them with one that upright.
