A typical chicken is able to fly for short distances. They aren't able to fly in the same way that most other birds are able to because of the fact that they tend to be heavier than most other birds. In the case of fighting birds, however, these really aren't able to fly because of the fact that the people that are breeding and training them will clip their wings so that their flight feathers aren't long enough to allow them to fly so that they don't lose their animals.

i agree with the last mylotter who commented that chickens can fly. However, i really do not know the real reason why it is that way. But i do know that they can fly because it's not possible for them to just "jump" high when they are fighting each other (in cockfights).

not a serious problem badaan. aircraft weighing many tons can fly, eagle could fly that far more weight than chicken ..
chickens can not fly because the chicken wings are different from bird wings. they also differ foot, the balance of the body is also different so that if the chicken flew and then landed they do not have a good leg to land due to chicken legs could not support the weight of chicken .. different from birds that have a foot type that is specific to the function of small feet but it landed functions to withstand the force of gravity of the earth.
different birds and chicken wings. chicken wings not to float in the air like a bird but could only hold their bodies in a certain height .. chicken wings do not have air pocket just as the bird that serves as a drag / recipient wind when they fly through the air. chicken wings shorter than the birds who can stretching wide in the air. This obviously resulted in chickens do not have a good motion to glide through the air.
