is johny's character as capt. jack sparrow accidental?

I read about that as well, they had originally cast hugh jackman to play the role. I, as well as millions of people out there, are sure glad johnny depp took the role. He plays captain jack sparrow in a way that hugh jackman wouldn't have been able to pull off. There is this quirkiness with a malicious undertone that sparrow has, which makes us just love and admire him. We owe it all to johnny depp. Another actor that could have pulled it off would have been robert downey junior, I think he has the smartass, quick to retort attitude that jack sparrow possesses. nevertheless, I'm sure we are all content with precious johnny as jack sparrow.

As Johnny himself said that the character he build is actually made form several persons he admires.. i think that one of them is Rolling stones guitar player Keith Richards :)

The actor they had originally cast for the part of Jack Sparrow was Hugh Jackman....Wolverine in the X-Men movies. Having seen Johnny Depp in the role, I think they made a wise choice. I think it's the best role he's ever played.

Well I think it's a very good thing that they went with Depp. I really think he made the movie. He plays the character so well. He really made it his own. I don't think the movie would be as popular as it is without him.

I don´t think any other actor would be as interesting and atractive a character as Johnny Depp. And even if he is a very good actor, I think he surpassed himself in this role. The ambiguity makes him doubly attractive, in my opinion. Not many actor can do that or dare do it.

Absolutely no chance. I probably would have watched it once. I don't think they would have even made a sequel to it, let alone 2. Depp is the best choice for the capt. by far. I love the series bit don't think I would feel the same way with jackman in the lead role. I mean sure he could be in the movie or even all 3, but not as jack sparrow. Luckily someone knew better.

I think Johnny Depp is really amazing in the part, so I think the character would not have been as good if someone else played him.
