christmas was usualy a nice holiday a very religous holiday but now everyone is exploiting it to earn lots of money. like shops the start their ad's with buy christmas gifts about 5 weeks early and the shops get all the christmass equipment out half a month early i think this has gone very bad. what do you think about this?

I don't pay much attention to the commercial side of Christmas. I do celebrate Christmas and I take it as the best opportunity to bond with my family. I attend parties and gift giving but I make it a point not to spend too much on gifts.

I really try not to pay that much attention to that side of Christmas anymore. It's really getting bad when we see Christmas decorations out in the stores before Halloween is even over. As it gets closer to Christmas I do get a little more involved but not in a commercial way. I participate in Christmas activities at my church. I am involved with doing Christmas food boxes at the food bank. We do enjoy seeing the decorations that go up around town. But as far as the commercial side of Christmas I do very well in leaving it out of my activities. We don't do the gifts, we don't do expensive decorating (we do decorate, we just don't go overboard). We do spend quite a bit on food for our Christmas dinner and do a lot of baking through out the season. I understand that the commercial aspect of it all is good for the economy, I just don't like it when that seems to be the big focus of the season. I'm glad that it provides some seasonal jobs for a lot of people, while it increases revenue for the whole community. That is just not the big picture for me. I like to focus on the true meaning of Christmas... and it's not money.

Well it is and always has been a kinda economy motivator as gift giving coming from its Pagan roots moves the economy forward or in the case of where Christmas came from people where trading for the things they needed or wanted. This time of year is the rebirth of the planet Earth. Now to the modern times Christmas is the big celebration to the massive machine who has capitalized on a market primarily Christans to a point where most if not all retail companies enter the Black by Billions of dollars and that generally will lead to more jobs coming out of the season as companies have made a good enough profit. This holiday does have at least some religious backing on like some other holidays like valentines day or mother/fathers day in which it is just a big earner for companies like Hallmark. You have to love the Capitalization of certain things people are interested in to make a profit that is what a free market society does it finds markets and optimizes it for profit :) I enjoy knowing that business is doing what it does best makes money.

There are a lot of companies that would never survive without Christmas sales. Let's not also forget these companies supply jobs for people to support their families. There are also manufacturing jobs, shipping jobs, even package wrapping jobs. This income also supplies much needed tax revenues. Charities get more donations at Christmas time. Sure it might seem they go overboard when they try to get Christmas going before thanksgiving but lots of people are helped. I think most people realize what Christmas is really all about. It's about the loving, the giving, and God. Let's give our friendly merchant a break in this tough economy. It would be lots harder to come up with gifts without somewhere to go easily buy them. Let's hope sales were so good this year they will have to hire more help.

Well, christmas has stopped being a religious holiday and turned into a commercial one instead since long ago, but still there are people who can't accept this fact. If you want to celebrate it in the religious way, then do it, as the important thing is that you spend the holidays in an enjoyable way for you I'm an atheist and I like consumism, so I spent them in a commercial and non religious way

most of the world is capitalistic, and religion plays less and less of a role in daily life. I still am religious, and understand the meaning of christmas, and the season of giving, and not just presents, but of time and oneself. I think that it can help jump start an economy, and that it has built consumer confidence this year. Would i like it to go back to a month beofre christmas the christmas stuff goes out on the shelves? Probably, do I think this is going to happen again in the near future, probably not because it is such a big money maker.
