It depends on one's intentions and I agree with some of the comments, one should ask the roommate first if reading his/her diary would be okay with him/her. In my experience, I had read a roommate's diary before and just when I realized that it was a DIARY (as it was just a notebook lying on her desk), I asked for her permission if I may read it. She said it was fine so I just continued reading - in my opinion, there was nothing too personal in it (perhaps that's why she just allowed me to read it), it was more of her daily activities and such. Still, I actually felt guilty afterwards but the feeling just passed. It was like knowing the person more. Nonetheless, reading other people's diaries without their permission is never acceptable.

actually it is really wrong and i think its not morally and socially acceptable. for me it's like getting something out of your friends.. you're stealing private information that he/she doesn't want everyone to know. so i think it is bad and everyone should not do it.

i dont think its moral to read other persons diarys including letters and other personal stuff, its not socialy acceptable because when you read other people diary even if it is your room mate you are interfering in other peoples personal life wich is not considered as something good, right to have personal life is on of the human rights and freedoms

It's wrong to read people's diary unless they want you to read it. But Personally, I'd love to read one. Since people put their thoughts in it, thoughts that are most of the time secrets, I think it's really an interesting book to read! Hahahaha!

A diary is quite a personal thing. I won't expect even my parents to read my diary, leave aside the roommates' case! Unfortunately, my expectations were not met and in the end I stopped writing Maybe an escapist approach but it was the safest...
