I did....my daughter crocheted me slippers and I love them. She also crocheted leg warmers and a matching scarf for my little granddaughter. She did such a good job! I like making handcrafted items for gifts.....but I love getting them as much as making them! Did you get any handcrafted items for Christmas? Do you like getting them as much as making them?

I received and gave handmade gifts this year! I also purchased and sold handmade items to be used for gifts this holiday season. I received handmade soaps, socks and little odds and ends, like a handmade back scratcher, a key holder (from my 7 yo) and a decorative piece of woodworking (from my 14 yo) and handmade candles that my hubby made with our boys. I gave sea glass jewelry and hat and scarf sets to family members (and now have a couple of scarf requests to fill...lol) I love receiving handmade items, and I find that friends and family enjoy receiving them as much as I. Come to think of it...all of my holiday gift cards that we mailed to friends, and gave to family with their gifts this season, were also all handmade

Technically, yes, I did. My oldest son made something in school, an art project. He molded a box out of clay and painted it and all that, and even made a lid and put it in an urn. My preschooler's class made a "cookbook". The cover is something my son painted with Christmas trees, candy canes, gingerbread men, snow men.. obviously used stencils or maybe dipped cookie cutters into the paint. Inside is a quote from each of the kids in class about their favorite meal. My son's quote is about Macaroni and Cheese.. he says "Put the water in there, put cheese in it, then cook it" Also he made a couple of ornaments for the tree. Really cute! I do love recieving the kids' handmade stuff from school. The teachers usually have such original ideas for the kids to make, like this cookbook thing.. just really cute! Ever since I found out I was pregnant with my oldest one of the main things I was looking forward to were the gifts they made in school, especially for mother's day and all that. I remember making stuff like that for my mom when I was in school.

I love home made gifts especially at Christmas. Seems more in line with Christmas. I got a basket of canned goods from a close friend (jellies etc), I loved that! My mother (an artist) painted pictures for everybody, they were beautiful! I usually knit things for everybody, this year I didnt have time so I sent baked goods. My sister who claims to have no craft abilities made home made night lights out of plastic cups and they were adorable! My brother always burns us copies of the previous season of Lost, now we all have them all! I would prefer strictly home made Christmas' they seem so much more thoughtful! It sounds like your daughters gifts were great!

Yes, the roommate's mom has been making crocheted top towels the last couple of years and for my birthday last month she gave me a crocheted hot pad. But that was all I got. However, I got 2 giraffes from her too that now sit in honor with my other stuffed giraffes! And a little bronze horse that she'd had that she knew I would treasure! In fact, while it sits on top of my chest in the front room, I need to take it to the curio so its safely behind glass.

Nope. I didn't get and give away personally handcrafted items but I bought some and gave it away. lol! I love handcrafted things so when I supplier of native bags and coin purse dropped by our office, I bought some and gave it to my aunt's and cousins. It was finely done since it's for export. They actually supply those crafts in Boracay Island. Even though we are residents here, we also loved using and having stuffs like these as "giftable" items.

Yes, I did. My husband made me tack hangars out of two of the shoes off of my horse. He welded a piece of another shoe to them and made a nice hangar for my bridle and reins. I really like them and will treasure them due to the fact that they are off of my horse.

That is so nice that your daughter crocheted you slippers. I never liked crocheted slippers but I think it was beacause the yarn was scratchy. They have nice soft materials now that you can crochet with and I would love slippers like that. I would probably wear them out fast from wearing them all the time though hehe. A gift that I got for Christmas was a set of pillow cases from my mother. She likes to make them. I have attached a picture of a section of the pillow case material. They are really cute. I have so many that she has made me. I will probably never run out. I probably will never buy pillowcases even if I did run out because I can make them for so much less cost.

homemade christmas gift - A part of the homemade pillow case set that my mother made me for christmas.
I forgot to attach the picture. I hate when I do that. You should put up a picture of the slippers your daughter made you. I would love to see them. I have a picture of them in my head and I'm jealous I want a pair :) I bet the crocheted slippers and leg warmers that your daughter made for her baby is so sweet. I would love to see a picture of those as well. When my sister was little my mother made a whole bunch of roller skate booties for her. When my daughter was born about 25 years later they were still in mint condition and I have a picture of my daughter wearing them. They were so cute.

I love to crochet doilies. I used to crochet a lot....now, not so much. Everyone I knew used to get doilies for B-days, Christmas etc and etc. I assumes people got tired of receiving these gifts....so I quit. My mother has always said....there is nothing better than receiving something homemade. I have been thinking of picking it back up for the winter.

We both received and gave handmade gifts! I personally received a set of hand made coffee mugs, a sweater and my favorite from my hubby. He made me stained glass sconces for my mantle. I made knitted socks, candles (hubby also hand carved some of them), ornaments, Irish, rum and amaretto cream liqueurs and a quilt. My kids made chunk candles, ornaments, and hot chocolate mix. I like the fact that love goes into the gifts as well as time. So much more important then big impressive expensive gifts.

That is so cool! I have wanted to try stained glass but I already have so many other supplies for the crafts I do I don't think my room would handle any more crafting supplies! Wow you are very crafty!

Hiya Jill, I really like those kind of things too. Before I donĀ“t know if anyone else had them we had a spate of People making Slippers with some kind of elasticated material. It was very soft and kept your feet really warm. They had a crocheted look about them but they were sort of knitted. My Sister made me a Pair of them and they were really warm I have not seen any of these for ages. They were really popular too for a time.

Hiya Jill, Pretty sure that you might have done as they were a rage all over the place for a long time. They really did keep your feet warm too. Also got some beds socks made for those terrible Cold English Winter Nights. If you were here I could show you something similar I think. But everyone was wearing them then.

Back when I was growing up I had an aunt that made me a Doll, and also one other yr. she made me a purse, and my Mom was known to give me handmade items from time to time as well. These are fond memories for sure, and I know I have given hand crocheted items out from time to time for gifts as well. Personally it is always fun to give out something I made just to see the expression of Thanks.

Nope, I didn't get any handcrafted items for Christmas. Handmade crafts mean so much to me. The time it takes to make any project is something I really appreciate. Our kids really aren't into making crafts as I am. I bet the slippers are warm. Never did learn how to crochet but have heard from so many people it's easier than learning to knit.

Hi Jill. No, I didn't. All I got for Christmas was a DVD set of Little House on the Prairie. But then again, that's all I really wanted for Christmas, besides love from my family, of course. Happy mylotting and Happy New Year!

Hi Jilhill, Yes, I have received handcrafted items for Christmas and other occasions such as my birthday and anniversaries. I think, personally, that they are the best gifts to receive, because they are time consuming to making and they are given from the heart with much love. This Christmas Eve, the news reporter was alerting last minute shoppers, and there were many, which stores were still open to purchase that last minute gift for that special person in their lives. Well, if they were so special why wait until the last minute and buy some random gift. Take the time to make a nice gift from the heart.

That's really nice of her ! :) I didn't get any handcrafted items, but we don't really do presents alot. I got this keychain from saudi-arabia with some small camels on it, it's quite nice actually, but not hand-crafted, haha ;). We don't really make eachother presents, so usually nobody realyl gets anything handcrafted, though when we were little we obviously made little things at school which were handcrafted, for your parents and family and all. :)
