How could I fall asleep?

India

Hello friends, I would like to know how you feel about it. Got something up in my mind for the past couple of days. I am a late sleeper. Not before midnight atleast. I can stay awake till 4 am at times and then when I go to sleep I have to be up and start "functioning" by 8. Post 11 pm I feel I am at my best of abilities. Now coming back to the story, I just want to let you know that i am not a Christian. But I had been in love with Jesus from my childhood. I strongly believe in Him and adore Him a lot. Since long and as far as my memory goes I never sleep before 12 on 25th December. I want to stay awake and cherish the moment to welcome Him back amongst us. This time,....I slept at 11... How could I?? The next morning I was up early but this thing was stinging. My father mentioned it to me and this further aggravated me. That evening I went out of town with my friend and visited a small Church. My friend says, think of it like, He wanted you to take rest and start afresh. My friend is always so full of hope and positive radiance. Should I feel as what he suggests or I shouldn't have slept?? I still ponder how could I fall asleep? Did you ever oversleep at a Christmas Eve or at any other important occasion?

First off, let me say, I HATE to be late for anything , anywhere. I can usually say I am never late for anything. Alas, that is no longer true. Years ago, I worked for a place that required me to travel by plane to the head office. The plane left at 9am which was the time I would usually start work so there was nothing to disrupt my routine. I arrived at the airport half an hour early which is normal for me and was horrified to discover that the flight left at 8am. The next one was not till 11am. I rang my boss to ask if I should catch the next flight and he said no, we would make it another day. I was mortified.

i am an atheist. but i understand your feelings of breaking a habit. it feels so disappointing not doing things that are supposed to be done. however, i do believe that you consider your body as a temple of holy spirit, and that your god commands you to take care of it. sleeping is important coz its the only sign that your body is telling you that "hey, im tired". sleeping is one way of preserving your body, thus preserving the temple god has given you. anyone would agree that your god would understand if you fell asleep.

Oh Bodhi - do not ever feel ashamed or sad over this. God is love and your friend is right. What a wise friend. So you slept? I too slept as it was real hell dealing with my sister who was too drunk to go to Church and I was scared to leave her alone.|I was that exhausted that I too went to bed. Don't you think that God understands? I respect every religion as I do not limit God and believe that He has a special plan for all his people who worship him in different ways. How could we doubt the holiness of Mahatma Gandhi or a Buddhist Monk? What I hate is fanaticism because God is love. But we have free choice and regretfully men commit awful atrocities in the name of religion. Christ must weep. If you ever read a Bible then Psalm 138 states that God knew us at the moment of conception and watched us grow in our mother's womb. Eventually you will know what to do or what religion to embrace. Whatever you choose God will love you just the same - unconditionally because He made you and you belong to Him. Both in the Old and New Testament it states that when we sincerely confess our sins our merciful and wonderful Creator CHOOSES to both forgive our sins and chooses to forget them. So we are sinless in His eyes - of course until we sin gain. Several times daily I ask God to forgive me. I feel this past year that my prayer life has suffered and I have not spent enough time with Him. I pray so hard for other people but usually forget to pray for myself No you are not perfect and none of us are. So you fell asleep? You were tired. Jesus can be welcomed every day and He loves you just as you are. I will try to pm you but no time whilst my sister is here. You are a wonderful special young man who is respected and loved on Mylot. Let me wish you a very Happy New Year for you and your family. Blessings

A very Happy New year to you and family too my dearest friend. I feel so good now. I liked very much what you said about Psalm 138. My beliefs are just the same. God is present everywhere watching us all the time. I guess every religion and every Holy book teaches us to be Human. Nowhere there would be support for violence. Its the "clever" manipulators who misguide. I probably won't able to express in words how grateful I am for your friendship and blessings.

It happen to me all the time, but not on Christmas day this year though. I went to bed around 4:00 A.M. in the morning, and I just keep on watching DVDs, nothing special though. So, don't blame on yourself that much, what has done is done. Let it go.

that night I was too tired even to stare at the television. No matter how hard I tried to evade sleep it was as if I was sleep deprived for ages and finally the sleep hour had arrived.

Not usually as I am one when I have to be somewhere my body is like an alarm clock. But as for what you stated, believe me if you had overslept and not gone to Church, God would understand. It is not like you were intentionally evading my friend, as your body is signaling you that you need to try to get more rest. So I wish you many good nights of restful peace and sleep bodhisatya.

It i s but natural that you are swamped by feelings of guilt when you have overslept on an important day. But take heart from the fact that truly great beings themselves look only at intention than anything else. You consider Jesus as God . So, He is not going to mind it at all. Just ask for His forgiveness and it is over. Celebrate today as the i mportant day [just mentally transfer it].
