It's only Music

Irrespective of what music you enjoy there is always one or two pieces that somehow just get to you. Many of us have songs that we play when certain moods overtake us. We have songs for when we are happy or sad. Melancholic or just need a lift. I don't always get a good night because of various chest issues so listen to devotional music - this always settles me: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvyCQTDxpBc Whilst I like devotional music that is not the reason why I like this. I just get a great sense of peace and tranquility that leaves me feeling that all is well. What music do you listen to?

I like most kinds of music, although I'm not crazy about opera. I enjoyed watching and listening to the song you included. Thanks! On the nights that I can't sleep, for whatever reason, I'm more apt to read. I find that better than anything else for relaxing me or improving my mood. Playing online puzzle-type games help, too.

I started listening to music again as it drowned out the sound of my heart beating. So I have to listen to music or wonder if my heart's about to stop! LOL.

I have some Native American music but not flute music. I shall have to see what I can find. I do have some natural sounds on my iPod but they irritate rather than soothe. Whereas I can sit by the sea and dream away. I walked home (2 miles) in the rain today. NOT very soothing or romantic.

After starting discussions about what people do (or don't) wear to bed at night, I'm surprised that your heart isn't beating just fine. Of course, you wouldn't be getting any sleep... Have you ever tried listening to nature sounds, like rain or wind cd's? Native American flute music is good, too. Hypnotic like some Celtic instrumentals.

Up till a couple of years ago I was a diehard heavy metal fan but then I discovered Jazz. I still like metal but I have to be in the mood. Jazz seems to cover every mood and circumstance although what they call "jazz" nowadays doesn't hold a candle to that it was 50 years ago.

There are so many! I like jazz from the 30's. Today's "jazz" is more like easy listening. I like some life and excitement in my music and jazz from the early 20th century when it was just developing is very lively and expressive.

Wow, what a beautiful piece! My taste in music is pretty varied really and my moods definitely influence what I listen to and when. I did use to listen to Megadeath in the car on the way home from work when I'd had a bad day! My Parents had a record called "Hooked on Classics" which was an orchestra covering many popular songs of the time; and I used to listen to this album a lot. They performed a version of "Lydia's Theme" (Get back) for example which always energised me! Music is a wonderful medium and I'll be forever grateful for it!

I once watched a concert on TV that was performed by Metallica and they were being backed by an orchestra and it was amazing! I've also watched one being performed by KISS and an orchestra as well. In the KISS concert, all the orchestra members had their faces painted like the rock band! Both instances were incredible to hear and it just goes to show that genres can meld together to create stunning results no matter what style they may be. Hopefully one day someone will mix Reggae with Yodelling! Yodelady yodelady hoooooooooooooo mon!

Megadeath play Bach is one if my all time faves James! LOL. I don't think that what the music is matters - it has the ability to take us to another place.

Pike- My mother is a music major so I grew up with music in the home to the point that we all played two instruments, as well as sang. I cannot say I regret having grown up in such a house because even if it caused perfectionist attitudes toward music it gave me my sincere love of music. My favorite composer of all time has to be Beethoven. His music truly evokes every emotion in my being when I listen to him that I can sit back, close my eyes, and imagine that he is right in the room with me playing just for me. His sonatas are my beloved and among them Moonlight Sonata movements one through three are beyond words. I found, not too long ago, a video (three) of Wilhelm Kempff playing Moonlight. He was truly a talented man as well and being that he continued to play such music right through World War II impresses me, as a great deal of Beethoven's music was influenced by the wars of his own time. Moonlight is one that simply stirs my very core. I move with the music, my heart releases, and for just a few brief moments I am enraptured. Enjoy. Namaste-Anora Movement 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6txOvK-mAk Movement 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDNsX4DtzZs&feature=related Movement 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqSulR9Fymg&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Beautiful all three of them. Thank you for those. Where I work we have a very talented pianist who plays for us sometimes. He's 85 and when he gets behind a keyboard he changes from a nice man to an angel!

Very nice indeed, all three. My mom played french horn and piano and sang, so we grew up with music too. Strangely she never pushed any of us to play an instrument. I played a little piano and accordion, but never got "fluent", though I'm going to try and pick it up again "in my spare time"...

This song always toucheds me, everytime I listen to it, again and again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pf1ONrOyees I listen to alot of genres really, I like everything, but as I'm into DJ-ing abit, I listen to alot of house music(I know totally different from the song I sent, that's jsut what I listen when I want to calm down). I really can't imagine a world without music, I guess it would just be incomplete..

Thank you for the link. I also enjoy the music and the beautiful cathedral. I love all kinds of music but there are some Arias sung by Pavarotti, Bocelli or some other tenors that really touch my heart and bring me to tears with the beautiful sounds. Crazy but I also enjoy rock and country.

There are certain bands which I relate to certain periods of my life as they were charting then, or particular favourites. There´s one band who´s music always reminds me of driving around in a beat up old car who´s stereo didn´t work so I strapped a big old ghetto blaster into the passenger seat! I got through a lot of batteries during the lifetime of that particular car! Just recently, I´ve been quite horrified to realise how old some of these bands are. I´m regularly appalled to speak to some of our young guests and discover that they´ve never heard of so and so. At the moment, I listen to very little music at home. I don´t have mains electricity, and solar energy is too precious in the dim winter months to squander on anything but light.

Hello pikey. I think the better question is what we listen when we have a specific mood. Well i have a couple of songs for different feelings. Let's see, when i am sad, some of the songs (depending on the state of the sadness) that i even cried on as it helped get the mood lower for me to be able to get higher faster: 1) DMX - slippin' Chorus goes like this: Ay yo I'm slippin' I'm fallin' I can't get up Ay yo I'm slippin' I'm fallin' I can't get up Ay yo I'm slippin' I'm fallin' I gots to get up Get me back on my feet so I can tear s**t up! 2) Eminem - mocking bird Chorus number 2 goes like this: And if you ask me to daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird I'ma give you the world I'ma buy a diamond ring for you, I'ma sing for you I'll do anything for you to see you smile And if that mockingbird don't sing and that ring don't shine I'ma break that birdie's neck I'd go back to the jeweler who sold it to ya And make him eat every carat, don't f**k with dad Ha ha! 3) Fort Minor - Where'd you go - i actually love the hole song here so i will post a link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzAsBFj4fR8 I also like the version with DMX called - Where'd you go my Lord - no crying for this 2, but they do have a strong impression on me. 4) Puff Daddy feat Faith Evans - I'll be missing you - this one is simply touching for me even if it is not the original song, i love this version. 5) Ludacris - hopeless Okay, so enough about sad songs, although i obviously have more but i won't have enough room for the response. Let's continue with songs that actually make me feel good and i listen to when i am feeling up : 1) Styles P - Good times ( i get high) - this is because it was the song after my high school prom, the song i listen for about a month a dozen times a day 2) Louis Jordan - you run your mouth and i'll run my business 3) most of the disney movie / cartoons theme songs 4) lots of songs from the old ages :) like the jazz of the '20 and '30 , the rock and roll from the '50s and '60 or the more newer music from the '80 and the '90s. So i will cut this reply here, it is very long already but if you want me to add more, just say so. Cheers, Alex.

As for me, I listen to smooth jazz and korean pop music nowadays. Jazz is when I'm studying or just to set the mood in my room. I love jazz as it's relaxing and the beat is very pleasing to the ears and it relaxes me after a long day in school. At times, when I take forty winks, I'll switch on my jazz and I can sleep comfortably for 2 to 3 hours. For korean pop, I do it when I'm ironing the clothes that my mother wants me to do. I believe the power of music enhances our wellbeing and it makes us do things at a more efficient pace.

Well ... listen to rock music, everything that is rock: hevy-metal,ghotic,hard, doom, electro-ghotic,progressive and classical music from time to time and sometimes even house. It often happens to hear songs that stick with me. On the street, in shops and bars hear one song that just follows me all day, whether I like it or not. And if you are good to think, after listening to any genre, less songs, but to convey a positive message, something good.

I mainly listen to alternative music. I do not like too much mainstream stuff. I like a bit of everything as long as it is a bit different and moves me emotionally or physically. Whether it is punk rock, classic rock, hard rock/metal, disco, blues or folk, as long as it moves me then I like it. I cannot really explain why I like certain songs, yet others of the same genre annoy me to tears. It is just the way that it is. I can understand why you get a great sense of peace and tranquillity from that music, it nearly put me to sleep! It is not my kind of thing, but good on you for liking something that is perhaps not so fashionable! I get that same sense of well-being from listening to certain types of world music such as this Tuvan band called Huun-Huur-Tu. They do a lot of throat singing in their songs. I find it a kind of meditation to listen to them. Below are a couple of videos of my favourite songs of theirs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAaYkLZwfrk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qn27GOAkwo
