That's not true. My dad used to take care a chicken, he need to breed the chicken in order to produce eggs. After the hen lay the eggs, my dad get the eggs from the nest and then incubate the eggs to make sure the eggs will hatch.

I've raised chickens without any roosters around, and I can tell you for sure that chickens do lay eggs even if they've never seen a rooster. Dicefame, if you ask your father for the details, I'm sure he'll straighten out your misunderstanding. He needed the roosters so that they could fertilize the hens' egg. Only if they're fertilized will they hatch out into new chickens.

We used to raise chickens for the fresh eggs. And yes it is true there does not have to be a rooster for chickens to lay eggs. However, to have baby chicks and keep the population growing you'll need a rooster (just one to about 25 hens) to fertilize them. I personally like the eggs better when they are not fertilized!

Everyone has given you good information. It was hard to believe at first, when I was really young. I see someone even looked it up online and gave you a link so you could read it yourself.

Believe it or not, I was just thinking about this a few hours ago. So I come here to MyLot and I find that somebody has also been busy with solving this puzzle. I managed to get some info from my friend, he says his grandparents have hens but no rooster. They still manage to get eggs from them, but like previous responders mentioned, these eggs will transform into chicken unless there is a rooster around who will fertilize the hen.

i think so. in the chicken farming, there are some chickens which produce egg everyday and we consume everyday. why are you curious about it?
