Just finished my medical for a job next year. Someone came up to me and just chatted me upon knowing that we're applying for the same company, specifically a call center company. Frankly, i've observed this with other call center applicants and agents alike, they tend to chat just whoever as long as that someone is an agent too and i find this quite odd. Hospitable but odd. I guess it's like "the same feather flocks together" right? Have you experienced this or something like this? Namely, someone just coming up to you, introducing themselves and striking a converstation?

Hello Front,
You know It's really hard to live a life after talking to a lot of foreigners who are either angry, racist, discriminate or simply desperate just to get what they want.
As for the applicants, it's really striking nervous for new ones if they are quiet all the time. Frankly, i would not start a conversation the next time i apply for a call center job because it has distracted me from concentrating what i need to say.camaraderie doesn't last unless you still work on the same field.

I've worked at a call center for 5 months and i haven't felt the need to just strike up a conversation. Whenever i felt down or irritated i just setup my Playstation and play or call up friends and go out. I'm thinking of trying it sometime. I think it's a nice way to rub off the bad vibes you get from answering calls.

I've been a call center agent for 4 years with different companies. And every time I'm going to my medical or even during the recruitment process itself, I am the one you are talking about that will just come up to you and start a conversation. Whenever I'm on that kind of situation, I always feel that I need to talk to someone or at least get to know a new person. I just want to chit-chat a lot. Considering that recruitment process and medical exams will keep ypu waiting for hours, so I have to talk to people so I will never get bored while waiting for my turn.

Wow, really? May i know where you've been working recently? If it's OK, that is. If not then it's all good. :)

Yes. I'll tell you the truth, I do it all the time. I've been a call center agent/customer service rep for over 18 years, and I'll talk to almost anyone. I make friends that way! On the bus, I've had fast friends, talking about how our jobs suck, or our problems. We called it "bus therapy"! I find that the more people I talk to, the more I know. I've found out about food pantries (I'm unemployed right now), how to apply for social services, and the best places to eat in my area. Really the only thing I haven't gotten is a job, and I hope to do that through word-of-mouth, soon, too.
Call center agents tend to be chatty - after all, we talk for a living! If we don't practice, we get "out-of-form", so I'd say if you're looking for that sort of a job, get practicing! The quicker you can get a person to feel good about your "hello" line, the faster you'll get on in the vast world of telephone communications. Besides, it's fun.

Actually, i've been an agent for 5 months now (just resigned due to too much stress) and the idea hadn't crossed my mind. I often get chatted to a lot whenever i'm smoking outside the vicinity with agents from different accounts. I find it weird at first but as the conversation goes on i get comfortable talking to them. I'm only praying that gorgeous agent girls strike a conversation with me too. That way i won't have to pick them up.

Yes, there are a lot of people who just come and strike up meaningless conversations. I've done this before and they are only during group interviews, just to look 'involved'. But on a regular day, I wouldn't do that.

Well, yeah, in a group affair i usually do that too but when during the situation i told earlier, i'm not that open into opening a conversation with someone else.

Well, there are many people who are just friendly like that, and if they find a good excuse to start a conversation, like applying for the same kind of job, then they can try to make a new friend, I think.
Or maybe because call center jobs are very hard, and call center agents tend to stick together for not to lose to stress

Being a call center agent is hard. It requires tremendous amount of patience to customers and their inquiries (rants). I've been handling calls for quite some time but i didn't find striking conversation with someone i don't know a good reason to relieve stress. I'm not that much of a "friendly" type. I only make friends when the situation calls for it but in other situations, i just mind my own business. Maybe that's why i find it weird.

Call center companies provide customer support to various establishments that need it. It could be sales or just for inquiries but generally, they provide inbound or outbound calls. Some, though, provide e-mail support as well. They're the ones you encounter when you call Mcdonald's or Pizza Hut for an order.

Everytime I apply for a job I always have someone to chat with that is my fellow applicant. I think its normal to applicants to have a chat to say your thoughts on the company and position. You may also learn new things with them.

Yeah, i figured that a long time ago. Well, it's great they just do that. When i was a student, the atmosphere wasn't like that.
