Appreciating the beauty of the weather.

Now that I am home safely from visiting my family for Christmas I am able to appreciate the beauty of our winter weather.
I took some beautiful pictures on a lovely crisp, misty, morning walk his morning - it certainly does look beautiful around my home, even if the snow and ice is very disruptive. These fields are just 5 minutes walk from my home, I think being in a rural environment has kept the snow looking so wonderful.
Is your December weather much different from this?

Hi oldchem,
Your post reminded me of the lines by Robert Frost: "The woods are lovely, dark and deep....'
Sure one needs to have the knack to appreciate the beauty of the nature. I usually do. Every time the weather changes I feel something different changing in me too.
The laziness of the winter and the fullness of summer are contrasting but they are beautiful in themselves.
I bet all can not appreciate the beauty of the nature.

Great you too know the poem. This really bids people when they share same thing like this poem.
And yes the summer is summer.

In India especially towards South, we do not get any snow falls. The climate is bit cold but we could see only the mist not the snow. I would really enjoy seeing lots of snow heaping on the ground and kids playing with it. Wonderful. I had a colleague who was from France and when he showed his house during winter it was full of snowfall. What a beauty it was.

I can imagine that for anyone who has not experienced snow it would be wonderful to see and play in it!
I have to admit that when the snow first falls I still get that childish excitement, but when you have to travel and get on with your life it can become an inconvenience, to say the least!!

That looks like a normal December for us but it hasn't been very normal around here lately.
Last year, as you probably know, we were buried in snow by this time. We had over eight feet of snow last winter, starting with the first snowstorm on November 3rd.
This year, we've barely had any snow so far. (Knock on wood! Don't want to jinx it. LOL) We've had a lot of "flurry days" and a couple of snow showers with only one with any real accumulation and that was only about three inches. This is closer to "normal" for us.
However, it has been especially cold this winter. Our lake froze over very early. It looks beautiful when it has a covering of snow. I just wish we'd have a LITTLE more snow than what we've had so far this year.
To me, snow makes the freezing temperatures bearable. Instead of going outside and saying, "It's friggin' FREEZING out here!" I normally say, "It's so beautiful!" when we're covered by snow which helps to get my mind off of how friggin' FREEZING it is.
That is an absolutely GORGEOUS photo you took, by the way.

This is very unusual for us, and it has melted a little, in this photo you can see a little more green than we could a week ago.
This is a view over the Bowland Hills that are just behind me, we have some lovely views - especially in the winter.
I agree it is far better with snow than just the constant cold of freezing weather!
Our winters only usually start to get bad in January and February, so just hoping we've had it early this year and not as well as!!

It sounds like your winters and ours are normally very similar. January is normally the coldest month and February is the snowiest.
We're having a bit of a warm-up right now. It's 37F, 5 degrees above freezing, after about 3 solid weeks of below-freezing temps. It is actually supposed to get up into the 50's by this weekend. Sadly, next week, it is supposed to go down below feezing again after this little respite.
At least there's one good thing... we've passed the winter solstice and the days are getting longer. YIPPEE!!! One thing I despise about winter is the very short daylight hours. I love my sunshine!

If only we could appreciate the beauty in any kind of weather. We only seem to have thisa appreciation when the weather is suiting our needs. Finding the joy can be hard when when the weather is not being kind to you.

This year we have not yet had snow. I hope that does not mean it will come and stay closer to spring. I agree, if I do not have to travel or get out much, snow is beautiful. Unfortunately many people do not know how to drive safely. I am in a nearly rural area. I can walk out of town in about ten minutes. It makes for some pretty sights.
