Our rule of thumb is one major holiday at a time. So Thanksgiving must be done before any Xmas stuff comes out.
But because new years is a minor tradition for us Xmas stuff can be up or down then but lights are off outside by then. Ideally holiday stuff is put away by new years but if we travel is nice to enjoy the stuff in our home a few extra days... Part of it is when the tree is dead dead and shedding...

Christmas decorations (according to the tradition in our family) should not be put up before Christmas Eve and should be taken down by Twelfth Night (which is January 6th, 12 days after Christmas). This is an echo of the Roman festival of Saturnalia which lasted for more than a week but was 'Christianised' by the fact that Epiphany (January 6th) celebrates the arrival of the Three Kings.
These twelve days are also the origin of the song 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' and probably, originally, each day was intended to represent one month of the coming year.

That is exactly the same family tradition I have followed since I was a wee girl in Scotland. Now at 71 years of age I still follow it faithfully.
We do put the decorations up late on the 23rd so that they are ready for Christmas Eve.

Here in the Philippines, we always have these "extended celebrations". We don't keep or take off the Christmas decors until the 6th of January which is the feast of the three kings.

yes, here in the Phils. we generally take the Christmas decorations down after the 3 kings , Jan. 6. The Filipinos really celebrate Christmas season a long time and i am proud to be one.

In our home, we usually don't take down Christmas decorations until February. Here in the Philippines, we use artificial Christmas trees made of plastic or thick paper-like materials, that are put together from trunk to branches. We usually keep our decorations until we lose the feel of the Christmas season and mainly because we are too lazy to put apart the tree. I have a friend and she also usually leaves the decorations until February because it's tiring to put away the tree.

It probably is a Catholic thing. We don't put our Christmas stuff up until the week of the 20th since we're still doing Advent stuff, and we don't take anything down until the 7th of January (the day after the Epiphany).
The manger scene still has to be there so the Magi can bring gifts to the Christ child.

I think I'll take it down three days after the new years'eve, because the New Year is an important celebration in Romania and most people do the same thing and throw away their xmas trees in the first days of January,so I'll follow the traditions.

We usually put our stuff up the weekend after Thanksgiving. We don't really decorate for Thanksgiving so there is nothing to take down. I usually like to have everything down by New Years. There is a lot of Christmas decorations and it makes everything seem cluttered. So I like to have everything down and packed up for the new year.

I haven;t used a real tree for a long time. I usually put my tree up around the first of December and take it down on New Year's day. I do mine that way because of my work schedule. I have the 2nd of December off for my birthday and then, of course, New Year's day is a holiday. Works out pretty good for me.

I usually wait until after the new year to take down my christmaa decorationa. by that time, i am ready to part with them. It can seem like a waste to take them down nut i guess they can't stay up forever.

I would take down my Christmas decors after new year. Although here in the Philippines January 6 is still Three Kings Day and no longer celebrated. On some households they take down their decors after that.

Here in India..we dont take out the decoration for 2 or 3 weeks. New year passes...Then around 6 or 7th of January slowly slowly we use to remove all the decorations. Because, you know...it doesn't really feel good to remove all the decors which we have done so hardly...So we like to keep it and see..

Usually I put all my decorations up right after Thanksgiving and I dont usually take them down until a week or so after New Years. However this year I didnt put my decorations up until about a week and a half after Thanks Giving and actually I just took them down last night.

It has always been a tradition in my family to put the Christmas decoration up on December 23rd, read for Christmas Eve and take then down on January 6th, Twelfth Day of Christmas, also known as The Epiphany or Three Kings Day.
