All alone! What to do on New Year's Eve?

Me and my co-worker had to choose which one of us will work on Christmas Eve and who will work on the New Year's Eve. I chose to take a time off on Christmas Eve, so this Friday night, I'll be working. But I'm not required to go to the office, I can just login at home and monitor our people from there.
At first I was thinking maybe I'd just go to the office after all to celebrate the New Year's Eve with the few people from my team who will be working in the office that day. We'll have free food and our office is near a mall in which a local channel always hold their New Year's Eve countdown (though it's way at the back of the building where our office is at, and it's on the other side so we won't be able to see the fireworks from the office but we'd be able to hear them.)
But now I'm thinking I'll just stay at home and work from there because I feel exhausted these past few days and I could use the 3 or so hours of travel time (2-way) to get more rest. My housemates will all be away, off to the province so I'll be all alone. I can't go to the province myself because I don't think I'll be able to get a stable internet connection from there and be able to work remotely. So I'm thinking what should I do on New Year's Eve. Even though I'll be working, it's not gonna warrant me to stay in front of the computer all the time since there's no expected load of work to do anyway. I'm not fond of firecrackers and I feel lazy to cook since I'll be cooking for myself only. I can't sleep of course since I still have "work" and it's bound to be noisy outside. So what to do? Do you have any suggestions?

It is very unfortunate that you have to work during new year's eve. It is a holiday for all and a time to rejoice to welcome the New Year. Since you are on duty and expecting not much work to do then you'll probably end up reading books or playing games online. Oh..what a boring thing to do during new year.

It isn't as bad as you probably are thinking. I'm used to being alone and I'm sure there's loads of things I can do to enjoy by myself. I just need to figure out what are those. Thanks for the suggestions and have a Happy New Year!

Invite one or two people over who can toast and cheer with you. Those that understand that if you have to log in to work you can do so then resume the fun.
Get some snacks and champagne that will keep you all busy with some nice music too.
My boyfriend and I usually go out and celebrate with a great many people but being that we were out of town for two months we are exhausted and decided to toast alone with some nice snacks and enjoy the company together.

That's something I also have thought about, but it's hard to invite friends on New Year's Eve because they already have plans with they're family and loved ones. I did invite a couple of friends but they haven't committed. Maybe they'll drop by but will have to leave before it starts getting noisy outside. But thanks for the suggestion and have a Happy New Year!

I stayed at home planning to leave at 5am to visit my relatives in the province, but I fell asleep and when I woke up at 6 I still had some work to finish so I was only able to leave at around 8am. Now I'm back but I feel so lazy. What a way to start the year! Thank you and Happy New Year!

I'll probably do the same. I guess it's okay. Sometimes being alone is what we need, even in times when others are celebrating.

You sound like you're working abroad or something? It's tough when you're away from your family during this season but I do hope you'll still have a happy new year!Thank you!

I just do whatever I would usually do. And the only reason I'd stay up till midnight is because the fireworks around the neighborhood would keep me from sleeping. New Year's doesn't really exist except in the calendar, which is a human creation. It could be any time of the year, really. So I've never seen what the fuss is about.

I remember not celebrating the new year a few times because I'd still have work the next day and I just didn't feel like it. But welcoming the new year can be fun even if you don't agree that it's something to celebrate for. While I do get why you don't think there's anything to celebrate about, for some people, it means a new hope for a better year in case the last one had not been that great for them. Even if it's really just a "date" the fact that it gives that hope to some is a good enough reason to celebrate for me. After all, anything we celebrate that's related to a specific date is just that, a date. Even birthdays are just dates but it's good to have fun and celebrate sometimes. So still have a Happy New Year!

Good for you. I'll be visiting my family on the morning of January 1 after work, since I can't be with them on the new year's eve. Have a Happy New Year!

I don't think that program will be available here in my country but yes, most of the top networks do have live New Year's Eve countdown programs. I'd definitely tune in, if only so that it won't be too quiet inside the house. Thank you for the suggestion and the hug as well, have a Happy New Year!

I think you should go to work and spend time with your co-workers. It beats being alone. Food, company, and a mall down the street? Sounds like bliss to me. Only thing missing is someone to kiss at midnight.

I've already decided to just stay home and work from there. Our office is far from where I'm staying and commuting, which seems to be getting worse each day since the start of the holidays, may be difficult. Either way, I won't have anyone to kiss at midnight.
Thank you for your response and have a Happy New Year!
