Oh man, i just ran out of ideas to post so i'm just posting this one. When someone claims that he's a genius, would you believe him? If, say, no, you won't believe him and he gets angry, would that make a difference? Really, there are people like that, people i didn't know existed in real life. I've just encountered one and i couldn't believe myself. I was like "Wow, you're a live one. How does it feel to live in your own world? Ever tried coming out of it?"
Have you encountered someone like this?
--claims he's this or that then if he somehow senses you don't believe him, he gets angry for you not believing him?
Again, wow. I thought the only myth around here is earning more than $20 a month but apparently not.

There are many people who consider themselves above the average and, even if they are smart, they tend to overestimate their intelectual capacities at such a point that they are convinced they are geniuses, but I think a real genius is very rare and,if it is a genius,it has enough brain not to boast too much about it and consider other people an inferior race;I think those who do think like that have a very sad existence because they can't enjoy the company of'normal'people and end up in complete isolation from any social contacts.

Bull's eye! This is what i've been waiting for. This is the same thing i'm thinking. They're well off on their own that's why they don't make friends and if ever they hang around people, they couldn't handle socializing that long.

This brings to mind another class of people.
How about those who are educated beyond their intelligence?
I worked at a college and saw several.

I have an IQ of between 145 and 155 depending on the test but sometimes I do the stupidest things and I look back and can say "I was a moron". But I don't go around telling people how smart I am.(you brought it up) I just let them wallow in ignorance if they think I'm dumb because a lot of the time I put on that act.

I have nothing against you or your IQ. I've never seen you claiming you are a genius but i've just found out that below your response is a "similar discussions" pool and the first one is exactly what i'm pertaining to (yours currently is the last response).

Yup, amusing, but sometimes it's better to leave them alone coz they don't like to be the laughing stock of the group.

LOL and too funny. I especially like the test paper picture.
Yes I have encountered someone like that and I have secretly labeled the person as a liar.

Genius is very rare, and it's not up to the individual to decide whether they are or aren't a genius. If you haven't accomplished something truly amazing in a field, something that contributes to it and/or changes it drastically, you're not a genius. And that's true no matter how high your IQ may be. Genius is decided by the top people in a field and by history. But people have big egoes, and if someone wants to believe he's a genius, nobody is going to talk him out of it.

You're right but this egotistic fool gets angry if, for instance you shrug off his claim. From my perspective, what others think of you is none of your business, right? Well i think he's a faker and he gets angry coz of it. I didn't even say he was, i just expressed my disbelief by a mild sarcasm and he got angry all of a sudden. I mean, what the hell? Am i supposed to believe him coz he's angry at me? I don't think so. He can shove it where it belongs.

Unfortunately, I have encountered many people who claim to be some sort of 'genius'. Most of these people were nothing of the sort, but were just deluded enough to believe in their version of reality.
In my experience, if someone tells you they are a genius, they usually aren't. In my opinion, true genius does not have to be announced - it is easily noticed.
Of courrse, I don't know for a fact if such people are geniuses - that would require some sort of testing, in which I have no interest. Come to think of it, what is genius anyway? Is it merely an IQ score? Some other objective measure? or something else?
People feel a need to be superior to others - it is a human need. Claiming above-average intelligence is merely one way of establishing that position of superiority. What does it all mean? Probably not much...

Exactly. I know we all need attention but what he was doing is more than enough. I mean, can you expect someone to announce that he's a genius? That's a big "no". I can expect someone proving that he's one but announcing it openly and then get's angry at anyone who doesn't believe him. Sounds like a retarded adult to me.

Hi frontvisions, people with higher IQ's or geniuses are on the borderline to abnormality. That means they are not normal like the average human beings. The normal people don't normally declare their intelligences. But geniuses do and they would even be shocked if you are shocked about it. Geniuses perhaps has a lesser EQ than the average person. So let it go. He needs understanding from average minds!

Lol. Your post was made for a laugh specially that attached picture of a part of your test paper? Rofl. If it really was that easy to answer then everybody will be kings and queens of Geometry! Going back to your question however, Yes I have encountered such people who claims the same thing. Would you even believe someone if she told you that she really is the princess of Spain? Haha. That's even worse right? But that was what I recently encountered in school. Anyway, we consider her as a desperate autistic person in class. Ugh! She's an attention seeker. Anyway, I had a good laugh with you. Happy MyLotting and see you around!

That's a better way to put it, "attention seeker". Too desperate to catch attention that they'd whatever it takes, even if the look like a fool. I feel sorry for that girl though..
