Normally when I have trouble sleeping the way you are, I will take a Tylenol Sleep or Advil Sleep, that usually helps me get back to my regular sleep pattern. I personally don't like taking those type of pills, simply because they tend to get me cranky the next morning, but in the situation that I haven't slept for more than 24 hours which has happened to me, I will definitely take one.
Another idea, is that you may want to contact your doctor and see what she advises, may she'll prescibe a medication.
Or may be you just need to relax and take your mind of things. I know when I am tense and worrying I can't sleep.
Sorry I couldn't be of so much help, I hope you get to sleep today!!!

Both Tylenol and Advil are over-the-counter medications, I normally buy a small bottle a year just to keep it handy for nights like those. Try to take sometime to yourself and relax I know it's easier said than done, because I am exactly the same way, but you need to do it for youself.
I wish you the best of luck and a Happy New Year!!!

try making sure your mind is blank...dont think about anything....have ur bath...switch off the light...change ur sleeping bed spread and listen to cool music(make sure u also eat your best meal...you will have a wonderful sleep....but the main thing is to clear your mind.

Hi insulin,
If you are having this problem persistently it is better you see a doctor and know what is the problem. Sometime tension, stress, and other factors too add top your non sleepiness.
Doctor might prescribe you some tablets. But once you are used to them it would not leave you easily.
If you do meditation and PRANAYAM I think you will have your normal sleep.

Hi insulin: This must be a terrible situation. I don't usually have this problems. Actually I sleep like a baby but when I need to sleep I do some exercise like for example think about the things that I need to do tomorrow, just think about them, don't try to find the answers to your problems because this would make you stay awake and I also start to talk with myself, make a reflection about a subject, etc or think about a beautifuk picture in my head and suddenly I'm sleeping. Hope you'll find your own tip to sleep better. I won't recommend you to take pills becuase they cause dependence to them.

Hi, there are a few ways you might want to try.
1. Exercise, it's one of the few things that makes me so exhausted that I could fall asleep almost immediately.
2. Try reading something that is boring or complicated to understand. It just switch me automatically to sleepy mode.
3. Play some music that can helps to relax your mind.
Hope it helps. Cheers

You must forget all your pains while sleeping and should only think about whatever posotive happened to you.Always remember happy moments you had and soon you will fall asleep.I guess this is the way to sleep peacefully.Just surpass all neagtive thoughts and create some funny and charming moments with your loved ones before sleeping so that you enjoy a hassle free sleep without any stress..

Usually I just think of a lot of things, have them all in my mind, or just concentrate on what I'm thinking of at the moment, until my brain is flooded with thoughts and after that, I enter sleep mode

I am actually having the same problem right now. It's because I am on a holiday and don't have too much load. I am student, so before going on a holiday I used to have a small lack of sleep, you know, had to wake up early and stuff. I was falling asleep instantly in the evening during these times. Now I can sleep as much as I want and I am having problems with falling asleep. However, I've noticed that situation has improved after I've been doing some physical activity, I've participated in football and volleyball training on several occasions and after that I was quite tired, it contributed well to falling asleep. I suggest you should also try doing some sports to get yourself tired before evening. The sleep would be quick to come then.

When I find I am going through a period of not getting enough sleep I use two different things. They are both natural and harmless and obviously non addictive! I try to drink camomille tea first. That usually helps me relax a little but if I find it doesn't work then I use valerian root. It's a capsule and it is a natural muscle relaxer. One of the two usually helps me get a little better night's sleep!

So many times sleeplessness can come from stress and tension we have. just finding that quiet calm to relax in will help sleep to come. If this doesn't help me, i try reading as well/

Try to do a lot of physical activity in the day. Try to get tired a lot, not mental fatigue, but physical fatigue. Try to do less activity in the night, so you can get sleepy, and then you will sleep good.
I also used to drink warm milk, but it doesn't work.

I usaed to think if I went on a long walk that It would help , but I think that might not work if you do it right before bed. What has been working for me ,when nothing elase works is I drink a glass of milk or eat some peanut butter. after eating or drink milk or peanut butter it seems to help me relax and then I sllep better. I hope this works for you.

You could try some prayer. It usually help for me. If something goes wrong or if I have some trouble - it's some kind of disharmony inside me...and only who can make us in balance with ourselves, with world around us - it's God. But this prayer must be deep, not like you were counting sheeps, but more from inside. If you will put all your stress, troubles etc. on Him, if you will get the peace - then you would be able to asleep.
