Do you think police officers are fair?

I don't think some are fair because sometimes driving you come to a four way stop sign or any stop sign and they never completely stop. But if we do that, we get a ticket but if they do that, it's fine. They're like the QUEEN/KING of the streets that we all fear because their title is "officer" - I don't see it far.. They speed, they break the laws all the time. In general, when they pull you over, they sometimes make stuff up. My friend he drives a normal old car and he got pulled over 3 times in a day and the officer made stuff up like... "Pop up your hood, when his car is stock.. he did look at his car engine and it's stock but then the officer gave him a ticket for not signaling..., he got another ticket for his light being out when his light wasn't out so the officer gave him a ticket for talking on the phone.. and etc" How do you argue that if there's only you and the officer? Do you call 911 and have another officer come? You can't argue with the king/queen of the streets!!
Even saw a tow truck, put on his emergency lights and went onto the carpool lane because it was "traffic".. Tow trucks aren't allowed to I don't think because tow trucks aren't important.
What are your views about police officers? Are they fair?
**However I am not judging based on a whole of ALL officers because there are really nice officers (like the ones who let me go off with a warning), fair ones, unfair ones.

Thanks for sharing & the law doesn't say they're higher but they act higher!

It is not easy to say because they have their reasons.
In my country there are enforcement officers who flout the rules simply because of their status as someone who upholds the law. It should have been leadership by example.
Another reason given is that they are on duty. I cannot completely comprehend this excuse because safety, both personal and that of other people, is a prime issue while on duty.
On another note some police officers acted the way they did in reaction to the attitude and behaviour of certain people when asked to stop. In this case I think the offenders asked for it. I was once let off for a traffic offence because I admitted I was wrong, did not answer back, and listened patiently to the short lecture given by the officer. If I had answered back and became argumentative the end result could have been different.
Based on personal experiences I say that there are a few bad apples among the officers.

Sometimes they are fair, but of course not always. Mostly, I don't think they are trying to be that way, but they have a stupid quota and they will get in trouble or fired if they don't make it. I know that that is no excuse to abuse authority like they do, but I'm just saying, the whole system is just messed up.
Yesterday I saw a police officer, flip on his lights to pull an illegal u-turn at an intersection where there is tons, tons, tons of wrecks all the time, and then, of course, he flipped them back off. I think it's ridiculous. I really wish that I had a camcorder. I would start trying to catch some of that stuff. I'm really sick of all that is going on in regards to police.

Definitely the quota is stupid so they have to it's their duty! And I agree, it is dumb the system.
Yeah, I agree thanks for sharing. I've seen some stupid things officers do and obviously its not an emergency. I see them flick their lights on, then cuts everyone then it's back off..

I have not had many direct interactions with police officers but do know people who have. Based on what I am told and hear on the news I feel that a great many officers are not fair at all.
Some have like this power trip thing going that they feel they have heard it all before so they do not hesitate to make a person miserable at times. I do feel that perhaps most start out fair and well exposure to so much crimes, and criminals it sort of hardens them.

Yeah it is stupid to meet the quota, they give out stupid tickets. I can't believe you got a ticket for posting up yard sale signs? That is just crazy, it's your lawn you're not doing anything wrong!! Wow.. seriously? There's a lot of yard sales here where I live.

My experience tells me that police officers are just like any other people. Some of them are good and fair while others are not. At least that is the case here in Slovakia. Though, most of them seem fair rather than the opposite. I do not remember ever seeing police car violating the laws. Though, they sometimes ignore pedestrians waiting at the crossing even despite the fact they should let them pass. Also, there are policemen that make stuff up or take sides just because someone is more sympathethic to them. However, these are rare. Being polite is usually the only thing needed to avoid any conflicts and higher fines (or any fines at all).

Police officers are not fair in any of the countries. I feel they are very corrupted and just try to loot the money from public. Except a few officers, all other officers are corrupted.

That happen to me sometimes too. They are unfair most of the time, I believe, they are just out there to fill up their quota, and not work on any case at all. My friend's car got busted by some thief, and stole his stereo system. The case never solved. While those police officer just randomly write tickets to anyone. That is what you get when you pay so much tax, and get treated like that.

they are just acting as a normal person that was given AUTHORITY would do.
its not just police officers that are not fair, all of the public officials are. they use their authority, power, money and connections to benefit them and not their countrymen.
i pity my country since although we have a president now that says he is not corrupt and he will clean our country because he is God fearing, i don't think he can do it since most of his cabinet members had been cited before to have been corrupted officials.
its like everyone became Gollum and wanted to have a RING of their own to become powerful.

In India most of the officers are rude and bad, without any hazitation they will ask bribe. If you bribe them, think that your half of the work has been done by them.

My personal experience is that they are usually fair if you are polite and respectful with them. I do agree that they don't follow the rules like we have to, but I think that's a small price to pay for what they risk on the job every day. The ones that are abusive should be fired of course, but as I said, maybe I've been lucky, but they've given me a break once or twice, and when I've gotten a ticket I definitely deserved it.

Yes, it's a small price to pay ask they risk on their job and definitely abusive ones need to be fired but the thing is what's the proof if they say something you didn't do? You can't argue! Thanks for sharing.
