Sweets!

Ecuador

Hy friends of mylot! As you know, we recently celebrated Christmas, and here in Ecuador(my country), is a custom to give candies(and all kind of sweets) as presents, specially to kids and young people. So, people use to do "fundas de caramelos", that are plastic bags full of sweets, and this Christmas I received four of them and also two chocolate boxes. So, I'm full of sweets. Now, my question is: ¿What is the maximum amount of sweets I can eat daily? I'm asking these because yesterday I ate lot of candies and chocolates, and then at the end of the day, I got stomachache. Please help me and tell me how much sweet should I eat daily. Thanks.

I know it is hard for me to control myself when I see the sweets around the corner, but I also know that it is harmful to eat too much sweets and one can have the sugar level high with it. I suggest you to give rest to your stomach and promise yourself to not eat this much sweets in your future because too much sugar can affect your digestive system. What you can do is consult a doctor for it and ask for the help. I don't have any home remedy for this problem.

During holidays, I always let my kids eat whatever they wanted with a slight cap on the sweets. I figure it is holiday time, friends family etc...give them a day here and there to just be kids. I never made them "fill their plates" or eat everything off their plate or eat veges they didn't particularly like. If they just wanted to eat mashed potatos that day...they got to eat just that. It is one day for crying out loud...let them enjoy. The candy/sweets part...we had an understanding...they could pretty much have what they wanted, but if they started to feel funny they were to stop (I did watch them just in case they did go over board...they never did!) and then they had to brush their teeth the second we got home. They were happy kids. I see my kids now...being really harsh on their kids at holiday meal time...they fix their plate and fill it with all the healthy stuff and they kids have to eat it all before they can have any sweets and those are particularly rationed out. The kids really don't like the meal time of the holidays. ANd when they see others eating so much sweets and they get one cookie or something small....I can see it in their eyes that they are really sad about that. It's one day...how much harm can you do? Granted..nothing but sweets all day will give you belly ache and acne maybe the next day or so and you'll add a pound or so, but enjoy the day intelligently and start the next day "fixing" things. I recently this christmas made some cookies, as I always did for years, and neither of my kids would allow their kids to eat any of them! To much sugar, they say. They are among those that erroneously believe that sugar causes hyper-activeness or a "sugar rush". It has medically be proven that sugar doesn't do that. It is the surroundings and other activity that generate the hyper activeness.
