I feel even Gambhir is also a flat track bully. We can see that now in South Africa. Talking about Murali, I too don't like him and I would have Pujara in the side instead of Murali. Murali Vijay just doesn't seem to be able to play properly when we need him. Giving the wrong person the chance has always happened in Indian Cricket.

well friend, Murali Vijay played only 8 test matches and scored 509 runs with an batting average of 42.41. He scored 2 fifties and one century. Best score is 139. All he got 8 matches and his average is good and how can you say that he had enough matches. In the present South African test series too he played the match in one test because Gambhir was injured.
Murali domestic matches played were 39 matches and 3,000 plus runs with an average of 52.06 scored 8 hundreds and 14 fifties. His best knock was 243. So it is too early to say that Murali is good or bad.

My dear friend, I have different opinion on Murali Vijay. He is better player than Raina, you don't think players like Raina, Pujara are flat track bully. I feel Vijay is far better player than Raina in Test cricket more than other formats. On what basis did Raina was selected ahead of Badrinath, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Karthik. Murali Vijay was selected because he is considered to opener and when every Gambhir or Sehwag gets injured, he can open the innings. I do not think there is nothing regional influence happened and even if it happened it is nothing new in Indian cricket. If any south Indian is picked then eyebrows raise why it is not when North Indian players are picked up. Murali Vijay is having less experience in South Africa compared to Sachin, Sehwag,Laxman, Dravid and Zaheer. So, when Sachin himself fished out the outside the off stump on a bouncy Kingsmead pitch in Durban. What are you expecting from Murali Vijay a double hundred or what.. Common how can you be so severe on player like Murali. He just came in place of Gambhir on a deadly pitch where both SA and Indian batsmen struggle to score. I am not having any problem with Murali Vijay and he need to open innings for at least 1 year in foreign conditions then we can comment on his technic. Same I would say in case of Raina, he struggles a lot against short pitch on any track. So, until he resolves that issue he won't be successful in Test cricket but I still say that Raina too must be given enough chance for a long time. I wonder what will happen when Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman retire.

None of the people who have responded have suggested an alternative opener. Shikar Dhawan could not perform against New zelanders at home. Uthappa does not even open for his state team. Jaffer's weakness to incoming balls is now known to all oppositions.
Even though Murali may not yet be a good overseas test batsman, he is still the best bet Indians have got when Gambir is injured.
Looking at quality test openers from most countries, Vijay does not deserve to be called a liability. He has done enough to warrant a place in the bench, if not as a first choice opener.

I dont think so.
Just give him 1 or 2 years, you will change your words.
Actually i am not a fan of him and I doesn't like him much, but he has the talent.
Dont under estimate a player quickly.
He needs more International experience.
He is now brilliant in domestic and T20 .
He needs more Intrernational experience to become hero in Intrernational test matches.
And dont judge him with this series, its a perfect bowling pitches, all the legends like Sachin,Dravid,Sehwag,Kallis, etc seems to be feeling difficult to bat in these pitches.

ya cheeka has been giving him more chances as he is from TN.
but we cant say that he is a liability.
he is not technically so good, but this is the way to buid up a good cricketer by giving the chance here and there.
probably gauti will come back in next test, so he got 1 test to play in SA.
we have to build a player like this only.
cheeka has been giving D.Karthik more chance in the recent past now his interest has shifted towards vijay.

Well, i also think the same about this. The chief selector is selecting murali vijay in the team because he is from his region. Murali can work only on flat track and that also sometimes. But the other reason i see here is that we don't have any other good opener for tests so automatically murali vijay becomes the first choice as he's been around for a long time. Happy mylotting. Regards, harry.
