locked up administrative acc. the computer unuseable without password

My friends mother died and she got the computer but can't do nothing with it because she don't know her moms password. Is there any way around that and can I fix it for free?

If it's a BIOS password, take out the battery on the mainboard for a couple of minutes, then put it back and try again with your fingers crossed. If it is a laptop, you could be in big (expensive) trouble. It will need expert intervention.
Another way would be to try starting it with a LiveCD - either a rescue or Linux CD.
