Why is my task still pending? It expires in hours!

I have a 35 cent task that I've been trying to get past the pending stage for many hours now. In less then a day the task will expire, however it has not yet found its way onto the "available" page yet. Why is this? I'm planning on spending hundreds of dollars in creating tasks that expire in one or two days. Does it make sense to do this? Or will the tasks expire before they ever get onto the available page?
