I have been on this writing site for a year now and haven't written one thing. I looked around again today as I really need to begin to generate more money (to pay for a new computer).. it seems pretty easy but I am hesitant to get started.. any ideas or helpful hints for me out there?

Depending on what site you are a member of, you could possibly start by publishing a couple of your favourite recipes...I have done this on triond & have had a few positive results. The only other things i could suggest is if you have a passion for something than you could write about that...I know you are training for a half marathon, why not write an article giving tips on how to prepare for such an event? Good luck to you & i can't wait to read your published work.

I have two or three articles up on triond and helium now. They are already starting to bring a few cents in. So I am a little bit encouraged. I'll check into the running aspect. I am working on finding out how to write a blog about it for money... exploring the possibility!

Just do it. :) Don't let it scare you. I wrote a few articles for them a few years ago and still get paid from them now and then. It's different from other sites like Helium, in that a client buys your article and then you get paid. When I was writing for them, you could specify if you were offering the piece exclusively or if it could be used by more than one client at a lower price per use. I don't know if they still do it, but it's a decent place to write for. I quit because I ran out of time and wasn't sure my stuff would sell and I needed to concentrate on things that would bring in a more consistent income.

I have an account with and articles published through Constant Content. I stopped writing for them because I basically ran out of ideas and was relying on the calls but by the time they had approved an article I wrote for a call, someone else had already sold it. So I got to the point where I felt like if you didn't already have something approved and waiting in the queue when an applicable call comes up, you might as well not even bother with it. Like I said, I still have articles attached to my account and one day a couple of months ago I got paid from them, completely out of the blue, because someone had bought a couple of articles and I didn't even know. But it used to be a great place to write for because you could write about anything and set your own prices for the articles, based on what you thought was a fair price. It wouldn't be the first company I'd recommend to write for but it's not a terrible one either.

Thank you so much for your input. I am still exploring a lot of different things. It seems with constant content it's better to write and put it there. But I haven't even written anything for them yet as it's all a little overwhelming. I know once I get started I'll be okay... Thanks so much!

In Constant Content, one thing you have to make sure about is that you follow their guidelines about format and stuff completely, and your grammar should be PERFECT!! I used to write for that site, but I submitted a piece and they said that there were too many errors in it, though I couldn't find a single one, so I just stopped writing for them...I might start again though :) Enjoy!!

Well, I have decent grammar but according to another site I write for I am constantly having trouble with commas. So, I may be SOL!! I may try though. Thanks for your input!

Hello, Macdingolinger. Somebody recommended Constant Content to me, and I took a look, but I couldn't get my head around it. I write for Helium, and that can be quite confusing until you get used to it, but CC was a whole lot worse, and I'm usually pretty good at understanding things. Sorry I can't be any more help, but I'm sure somebody will come good for you. Have you tried Helium? I average around $250 a month there, so you'd soon get your new computer if you got into the swing of it.

Helium and Constant Contact both came at about the same time and I haven't tried either one. But I want to make more money 0 especially to pay for the new computer! So... I may go back and look at helium again. Just never could get my head around either one - but now I'm gonna drown if I don't figure something out! Any headsup you can give me on Helium?

I'd say before you start writing at Helium, rate some articles, as you can only earn page view revenue if you have at least one rating star. Helium has just changed the upfront payment method now, and the articles that pay are featured in Marketplace. The editorial standards are quite strict on Marketplace, but if you're an experienced writer, you should have no problems. You can post articles written for other sites on Helium, apart from Marketplace, so if you have some stuff ready, it might be an idea to start with that to build up your writing portfolio. The more articles you have on Helium, the better your earnings will be. I have a link to me Helium profile on my profile page here. Message me on Helium, and I'll help out over there if I can. Basically, if your writing is good and you build up a decent portfolio, you'll earn at Helium. Good luck.
