Can gsm data be compromised?

I was just reading an article wherein a researcher was able to hack in to someone's cell phone without them knowing it. I would not worry about it for now though as this method costs thousands. but here is the link to the article. http://bit.ly/hSWYhG

Actually it doesn't cost thousands. It does cost a few dollars to set things up but nowhere near thousands of dollars. So yes we should be worried about it. But not to the point that we don't use our cell phones anymore. I mean internet is potentially dangerous as well and yet we know how to use it wisely.
