Hello everyone. Okay, just one thing here. I don''t want to hear about good morning or good afternoon. Is it a habit or good manners to say good night? No matter who you say it to. Parents, children, loved one's or friends. I was taught to always say good night to those near or around me. People i know of course, not strangers. That would be funky. Do you say good night or do you forget or just ignore it? TATA. Oh and happy new year.

It's not my habit and maybe I'm manner-less but I rarely use that term. Back in home, I always used to wish Goodnight to one of my sisters.. every night before going to bed. Then everybody started feeling hey! why to her only and I extended it to each of my family. Coming here and residing for such long times, I just got out of this habit. Now I do wish people around me, when I really want to wish... mainly after we had a long, heartening conversation. Kind of 'thank you' embedded in this. Maybe that much descriptive answer is not what you wanted. :P and yes, Happy New Year!

Saphrina- I was taught that you always said goodnight to those around you wherever you were at the time. So, if I am visiting I always say goodnight. So, if you are off for now I bid you goodnight. It is still early here so I will not be retiring for another six or seven hours. Happy New Year my friend. Namaste-Anora

Hi saphie... GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011. I am not the person for formality maintain. Sometimes i use good morning to my principal and senior professors but not daily... it's according to my mood. As i live alone and nobody to wish by good night.. so i less use it.

Hi, I do teach my son to say "good Night" everynight before goes to bed,but I myself don't have this habit to say good night to my parents. Probably because my family don'e have such practice since we are young, so we just go to bed without saying "good night" to our parents.

Hi, Saphy. I still do. though in my family , it is not a normal thing to do especially for the elders. I'm not sure why they haven't adopt such habit despite of the fact that we are so close and loving to each other. With regard to my husband, i only say goodnight to him if he isn't sleeping at home.and when he is texting after hitting the sack. But, when he's here with us, we ca doze off without even saying a single word to each other. But, when it comes to my kids, it is a common scenario, meaning saying goodnight, kisses and hugs, paired with I love you's. Oh, and, happy new year to you, too, dear .

Hi sweetie. Seems the elders don't do anything we do or say these days. Strange actually. I try to say good night, but it's not always that easy. He normally go to bed before i can say it. But one of these days it will be better. Happy new year to you and yours. TATA.

hi Saphrina, Happy New Year 2011. I do say people good night but I am scared of nights and darkness these days... And moreover, I thought the party would continue all night (btw it is morning 3:15 am right now here in India). Ok, Good Night... Sleep like a baby. theSids

You start up with a nice topic and after discussions, it goes far away from the topic when it go discussed by so many. As you said, if someone says good morning, I repeat. Like that, good afternoon also. But lately, good night is a practice at my home. Before going to bed, my daughter used to tell me good night as she goes early to bed and I am the last one. Why she is saying good night? She want to hear a story for 2-3 mts. and by the time she would sleep. And the funny thing is that she say good nigh, Ambani, (one of the richest in India), good night Gate (Bill Gates), good night Obama (US President) and Good night Lal (her favourite film star) and finally, good nigh papa (me). This is here practice for the last 6-8 moths as she know these are the noted people and should follow. However, good night is the sweetest among all. So, good night and happy new year. Thank-s

Happy New Year to you too. I say good night to work colleagues and friends if I see them. I don't usually say good night to mylotters as our timezones are so different, and I don't always know when I am likely to sign off!
