Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome or CANCER which one os more lethal. Treatment of both is not yet found . We have chemotherapeutic drugs for cancer treatment but these do not promise to cure with 100% success rate. chances of recovery depends on early case detection. AIDS : In past 25 years 25 Anti HIV compounds were found to show anti HIV activity but currently all are showing resistant to HIV-1 strain of virus hence not effective. So, disease still can not be cured. Only way to get prevented is proper education about HIV-AIDS and protection. -- Chemotherapeutic agents causes downfall in immune system. Studies indicate that person is more susceptible to other infections (means patient on chemo can catch other infections easily because of low immunity) AIDS -Due to low immunity patient is more susceptible to Other infections. --- so, according to you which disease is more lethal ? CANCER or AIDS ? --- My answer is CANCER. Because we still are not able to understand and regulate are body's cell functions and various changes related to them. and i feel that once we found success in Cancer disease, Solution to AIDS problem will come from it automatically.

I think it would be cancer. Apart from being lethal, there is no telling who gets it. I know someone who is physically active and yet still acquire it; it could be because of the genes. We all know that AIDS is primarily acquired from sexually-transmitted diseases but cancer??? It is very tricky. And if i may add, cancer strikes people not on stage I; before we knew it, we are already on Stage III! I hope medical technology finds a cure for this and fast!

said very precisely, a small mutation in gene like p53 can even impose cancer to a person who is most active physically. and majority of cancer cases get discovered in advanced stages. Lets hope to have some quick breakthrough in any or in both diseases.

Just heard that scientists got some breakthrough in the early detection of cancer via blood test. so its very good if its effective (i'll try to put light on this update soon)

Happy New year and Thanks for a quick response. Well no one in the world would like to be a part in any disease. May God bless all with health and fitness.

I'm am so sorry to seem rude. I guess I shouldn't have responded the way I did. But to me both are so severe. I do apoligize.

These are both horrid diseases that eat away your body. i would not wish this on my orst enemy. I would think that aids to be more lethal. We just don't lnow enough about how to treat it. Perhaps someday there can be a cure for both of these monsters.

Well it's a question of which is really more painful too. I know that cancer is very painful and that it is a really awful thing to have but in some cases if you catch it early it can be cured and the pain can be eased where as with AIDS the pain is not really ever eased or taken away. I have a father in law who is suffering with Aids and he is in constant pain as it has progressed rapidly in the past few years and he has to take so many meds. I also have a cousin and grandfather who had cancer but now they are cancer and pain free so I think that AIDS is both more lethal and more painful than cancer.

Yes, this is also correct. In fact, it is always said for both disease," If detected earlier, can be treated well" (or the damage can be minimized). If i am correct then i think in both cases the early detection is either by chance or almost not possible. Because in early stages for both disease no dramatic changes or significant symptom appear in the body can be felt by individual itself. (My views are based on certain research articles and on my project work based on HIV-AIDS )

I'm going to have to go against the grain and say that AIDS is more lethal. See, Cancer MIGHT kill you, but AIDS WILL kill you eventually. My grandfather had a tumor in his colon. It was operated, and they gave him chemo, and now he's fine. Is there the risk of relapse? Of course. But, once you have AIDS you're stuck with it for life. I have neither of those diseases and hope to never have them either.

Hard to say. I think it really depends on the type of cancer you have. If you have thyroid cancer or mouth cancer you're probably pretty good. If you have leukemia or pancriotic your chances of survival are pretty slim. AIDS is becoming more containable and it's at least "one thing" cancer has a very broad spectrum. However if you have AIDS and you get cancer (especially luekemia) your pretty much done for (to put it bluntly) because your body wouldn't have the stregth to fight it off or deal with chemo. So I'd say cancer too.
