There are in fact lots of people offering their homes (a room in their house) for short term accommodation at a cheap rate (well, cheaper than the hotels definitely!).
A budget hotel (which is not safe and often in the seedy parts of Singapore) can cost anywhere from $100 per day, whereas homestay rooms range from $40 - $50 per day. So have you came to Singapore yet?

haha =D There are not much cheap hotels in singapore unless u are talking about some budget ones? Even so, they will still cost u about $100+ a night. Room wise will be quite small.. hehe ^_^ Other than that, i dun have any ideas of cheap hotels because our standard of living is quite high here, and the same goes for hotels.

Hi, I'm from Singapore and I would really recommend Hotel 81 which are accesible plus comfortable. Their are few Hotel 81 outlets around Singapore which you can choose from. Here is their website.

Here is their website. I have seen the interior of the hotel and I must say their rooms are really great plus their services are not bad too. Some of their hotels are located near Orchard and I'm sure you'll enjoy shopping around the area. Plus, cheap and good food is never a problem if you are staying at Hotel 81.
1929 hotel at Chinatown isn't bad too. Its cheap and comfortable, just like hotel 81. But it has a more Asian interior design unlike Hotel 81.

Quality hotel might be another option also

If you are not very picky, you can try backpack hotels in Singapore. I can suggest 2 which offers cheap rates but they are on top of their class. Hangout at Mt Emily's and Rucksack Inn.

Thanks for considering to come to our sunny island for vacation. To be safe, it is better to stay in the shopping belt. You might want to try out hotel 81 or Quality hotel for a more reasonable package. Try booking online...choose one near the Orchard if you are into shopping. Online booking should be cheaper than walk in. Let me know if other info needed.
