HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! I had the pleasure of keeping my favorite grandson thurs. & fri. We had such a big time 'UNTIL' he locked himself in the bathroom yesterday. He had a big melt down & i thought i'd never get him out. He didn't think so either, bless his heart. He didn't want to get over it. I never knew he was such a 'drama king', lol. I was trying to console him the best i could & he was really playing a big role. The little devil finally said i know what would make me feel better, bobo & of course i ask what. He says going outside. Soon as i said we would he was all smiles. Do u think i was bribed?lol. I know i was.

Hi Jo! Happy New Years to you!!! Poor Ryan, stuck in the bathroom!! Yes, I definitely think you were bribed! Kids are so funny, they really know how to pull the wool over our eyes. I am sure the poor guy was upset at first, but I am quite sure it wasn't that big of deal, he just wanted you to think that way so he could get his way. At least it only cost you a trip outside, and not a trip to the toy store!!! LOL

Happy New Year to you as well. I am so sorry to hear you had to go through such a ordeal. My grandson still has those 'melt downs' although due to his medication they are getting fewer between. I live in a world of 'drama kings' and 'queens'. Ugh! I think you were bribed Grams. Kids are the best manipulators. Aren't they? Have to be two steps ahead of them.

I had my little granddaughter Tuesday night and wed....well we were supposed to go out for lunch on Wed. but we baked cupcakes right before we were to leave...I told her if she ate one I wasn't taking her out as she would be full..she says..I don't want to go out for lunch and proceded to eat her cupcake...well 15 minutes later she wants to know when we are going....When I told her that we weren't as she had eaten the cupcake she told me....don't get anywhere near me! LOL.....well about 45 minutes later I ordered a pizza as I didn't feel like cooking...she came around then...later she says...Grandma if you don't feel like cooking when I am here it's alright. I don't mind going out or you ordering pizza at all! LOL....she has my number too!

hi anty oh my goodness You made me flash b ack to when my little girl
who was abou four got herself locked into the bathroom and she was
giggling and I was scared silly. the little minx might have been brqain damaged to some extent but truly she was much smarter than we often gave her credit. I had bought some children's vitamins and she had seen me put them on the top shelf of the medicine shelves. I had not thought there was anyway she could reach them as tiny as she was but she was giggling and when she giggled that way it usually meant she was into something she should not be into. I had a mental rod I was trying to engage the locking mechanism with but no luck. Now this is the silly part, my son who was just five, just a year old than Lisa Rose, said "Mommy let me do that" and oh myG he did it and then he said"Mommy Lisa is eating all those gummy bear vitamins" He grabbed it away from her.I was horrified as I counted them and she had ate five of them. I called our pedictrician an he assured me that she would pass most of it out in her stools and she should be okay. S o I was relieved but I
learned two things, put a lock on the medicine cabinet, and two, my son was really very bright for his age. lol.You know when a child or grandchild is in trouble like that and melting down your hands get clumsy and you really have a horrid time. But to have your little son outdo you and rescue his sister was a tad embarrassing. He was a handful when he went to school as he was bored silly in public school. we found out he had a high IQ and needed to be advanced so we finally put him in a private school and he graduated at fifteen and a half and enrolled in junior college.Your grandson learned how to play it to the hilt.lol.Oh yes you were bribed but lol you know you loved it.

i'll say. they know how to handle us dont they? usually they dont get away with making mistakes like that with parents. so, they learn how to handle us and its nice to have an understanding grandma. so glad your son is loving enough to want you to spend time with him.

I used to lock myself in the bathroom all the time when I was little. Until I was finally terrified to go into a bathroom with the door shut! lol! I remember one time (maybe the first time) I locked myself in the bathroom and my uncle had to crawl into the window and let me out!

Happy New Year to you too!
We had a bathroom door at church that was hard to open, even for adults, so I know what you mean about thinking you won't get it open.
Mine is Ice Cream! All I have to do is offer the kids Ice Cream and they are over the trauma!

I think it is really important that he knew what would make him feel better. It is kind of a self calming thing. How did you get him out? How did he lock himself in? Did you have one of those little wire things that you push in and it pops the lock?

Ahh, the wonderful thinking process of small people! It reminds me of my daughter when she was four. I was managing a laundromat (one of my three jobs) and would take my daughter to work with me when I was closing down the store. One evening my daughter was really being a brat and wouldn't behave to save her life. I finally gave her a couple of gentle swats on her bottom and sat her in a chair in time out. I finally got the place closed down and we were headed home. My daughter, still very upset about the whole incident, turned to me and stated "I have an owie, will you kiss it better?" I, fortunately, didn't say yes right off but instead asked where the owie was...her reply was "On my bottom".
I love the mind of children. You can actually learn so much from them and get even bigger laughs out of their thinking. Hug your little grandson form me. He is so precious and obviously such a great joy.
Happy New Year!

Thanks for your sweet response. I love to be around children to, they are so funny & cute w.their little ways. That is a cute story about the owie. She was going to try to get u back, how cute the way she went about it. They are so much smarter at that age than alot of people give them credit for. Ryan could have won an academy award for his performance after he got over the scare. Happy new year.

My kids have never done anything like that and I'd have to slap them silly if they tried it! But of course grandmas are meant to spoil kids rotten so I don't blame you for allowing yourself to be bribed!

Hi. ANTIQUELADY. You have a sweet and clever little grandson. I am glad that you were able to get him from out of the bathroom while it was locked. My kids have locked themselves into the bedroom here. My youngest daughter has, locked herself into our bedroom in January of this year. She was crying so badly for almost, 40 minutes until her father came to get her from out of this room. I had to call her father to come and get her. I was so sick with the Flu on this day. It is really an scary experience to be locked into any room as a child by accident. Hooray to you for getting your grandson from out of the locked room!

Thank u & thanks for responding. I guess it's a very scary thing to a child to think they are locked in. I know my grandson was soooo upset & seems your little one was to. I would have probably paniced to if i thought i was locked in somewhere.

OMG aren't grandkids something else. They definitely know how to get over. How old is he? My granddaughter who is 4 soon to be 5 can b a drama queen herself. I would have been beside myself if she ever did this to me. I remember when my granddaughter was all of 1 1/2 years old. She asked me for a cookie and I said
"you can't have one now we will be eating dinner soon." She went to her grandfather dragged him to the cookie jar and then proceeded to whisper to him can I have a cookie. I couldn't believe that she was that smart at that young age to know how to get over. Sure enough she got the cookie because grandpa couldn't say no after such a smart stunt.

Sorry I am a bit late to this one! I think you were bribed for sure.
My wife locked herself in the bathroom in 2003 I think it was. Both the kids were at home with her and I was at work. I get this call on my mobile phone from someone saying that he was from the local police and that my wife was trapped in the bathroom and could I come home to get her out or tell the police where some tools are that might get her out. I thought it was the local radio station playing a joke on me!
Anyway, what happened was she went to have a shower, and the door handle fell apart on the outside leaving her with a handle that just spun around on the inside! She could not get out the window as we had just had security screens fitted to all the windows the week before! She had to get our 3 year old daughter at the time on the other side of the door to try and ring me, but she could not get the numbers right. So she rang 000 which is our emergency number and the police came out. As my son who was 18 months old at the time was playing and had not had breakfast yet, they considered it important enough to rush straight there!
I told them which key was for the garage and where they could find a screwdriver and then they let her out. Out she came red faced with a towel around herself, very embarrassed by the whole situation. It is a great story to tell and one that we often repeat to new people that we meet!
