How Much Time Do You Spend in Front of Your Computer Each Day?

United States
January 1, 2011 7:13pm CST
It's a new year and I have new goals. I am trying to start organizing days in front of me and I need some help. Can you tell me how much time you spend working in front of your computer and online pursuing your money making goals each day? I know some of you are doing this part-time, but part-time can actually turn into full-time hours. If you have any tips on how to minimize the amount of time you spend in front of the computer and are still finding success please do share. Hope to hear from you. Happy New Year 2011

Your spending as much time in front of the computer as everyone else. That's great that you are also earning online too!!!! So many people are doing so many things online. There are so many opportunities online! Thirty minutes is not much time to be spending online and making money. Sounds like you maximize your time online! Happy New Year

I spend about 3 hours per day in front of computer. I'm a freelance writer so if I must put in that time I don't make any money. I work 7 hours with typing support (someone who types for me and helps me use the bathroom, cook, and do other needed things to as I am a person with a disability).

That's not too much time. In fact, I think you out of everyone spends the least amount of time yet. I have been reading people spend an average of 8-12 hours per day on the Internet. In fact, one person posted that she spends 16 hours in front of the computer. I think that is wonderful that you have the support you need to do the things you need to do. I also think freelance writing is a terrific opportunity. I am going to be looking into those opportunities as well. I have not yet researched that. Maybe you could teach English as a second language online...I've also looked into that. What type of topics do you write on (if you care to share). Looking forward to hearing from you! Happy New Year

I think the best thing to do is join say 10 trusted sites as a standard member and get small amounts earned try getting referals too limit your time it takes to do tasks daily for each site then add say 20 mins extra for getting referrals only increase online time once you start getting a small income to build up from

That's a great idea. Is that idea working for you? Are you referring people to websites? Just wondering how much time you spend in front of the computer pursuing your interests and money making goals? Look forward to hearing from you. Happy New Year!

Everyday, I spend more than 6 hours doing things on my computer. I am so addicted to the internet. So much information and knowledge to gain.

Yes, the Internet is addicting. Like I have said in some of my other responses, the computer has become a centerpiece in most of our lives. It has changed the way use to do things. I think 6 hours is not a lot of time on the computer. I think most spend that much time without even knowing it. Are you pursuing any money making opportunities online? Happy New Year

Several hours between school, work, and myLot. I usually spend a few hours on the computer for school (some of my classes cover programming, like one hour for work (I have a side job as a webmaster) and then when I'm done I have myLot and facebook. So I spend a lot of time on the computer each day.

Like I have said several of my responses it seems to be that most people are spending an average between 10-12 hours in front of the computer each day. Some use a computer at work others work at home and others do a little bit of both. I think it is interesting. I am going to be posting another discussion today that focuses on What are some of the things people do when they are not on the computer? I'm sure sleep will be the number one answer. :)

The computer helps us connect with people no matter where they are. It has definitely helped many long distance relationships, including yours. I don't think computers have taken over our lives. I believe we have accepted them into our lives and they are now part of our lives :). Happy New Year

I don't have a job and I'm a student and I live with my parents. For now, it's winter break, it is cold outside, I just stare at the screen the whole day sometimes I lift weights. If you want to organize your life, then plan it. Set your priorities, the time that you are available, the time you sleep and wake up, the time you have in the shower, the time you spend eating, be consistent. That may be too much but I'm just guessing.

I remember when I was a student. It was the best time of my life. Enjoy these days because they don't last for ever. The computer has become such a focal point for everyone. I don't feel alone. Years ago my entire day was planned from when I woke up to when I went to sleep. I knew what I would be doing each hour of the day. If I didn't plan I learned I wouldn't accomplish what needed to get done. I had a little black book I kept and would stick to my hour-by-hour plan. I stopped planning like that after I left school I thought I didn't need an hour-by-hour plan, but I am beginning to think I need to start a little black book again and planning my day once again. I would always know what I accomplished on any given day by checking my book and seeing what I checked off. I just don't want to spend my days endlessly in front of the computer without some kind of record of what I am doing and how I am spending my time. Otherwise, I might just spend the rest of my days accomplishing nothing. Know what I mean? You are right about setting priorities. I thank you for your contribution it is great!

I am pretty much in front of the screen for about ten to twelve hours a day depending on different circumstances. Sometimes I am on there much more. And sometimes I am on the computer much less. However, I am always on there attempting to find ways to make money. I don't really have any tips to minimize the time on the computer, because I have no intention to minimize my own time.

Hi! Yes 10-12 and even more seems to be the norm for computer usage each day. I have just started doing research on how to make money online. That is my New Year's resolution. Have you found anything interesting or exciting out there!!! Happy New Year!

It seems like we all use the computer for a variety of reasons and spend a lot of time on the Internet. Life would be so different without the Internet. I don't know how old you are, but I can remember when we didn't have the Internet and it was a different world. Not necessarily better...I think there are more opportunities now than ever before. The Internet gives so many people a chance that wouldn't have a chance without it! Don't you agree? Happy New Year!

The Internet is very addicting. I am not on Facebook, but I can see how that would be very addicting. Are you using the Internet to explore money making opportunities? Just wondering. Happy New Year

The internet has changed our lives both for good and also bad.It is good for elders who can spend their time usefully in learning and earning. But it is bad for kids who may view violent and vulgar site. They are tempted to see such sites only.Parents should check frequently and prevent children from seeing such sites..

I am honestly online a minimum of 80 hours per week and that isn't including the time I spend playing online games on ps3. I feel that you get back what you put in so I can't recommend spending less time.

80 hours per week or average 11 hours per day and not include the game ps3 is horrible. For me, I shall just spend 3 hours per day because I just worry to get brain cancer, eye sight problem and back pain. Why don't we spend our time on doing proper activities as outdoor exercise, working to earn more money and so on. Don't be an addict to the computer.

Are you doing this fulltime? For me, even at work, i am mostly at the computer, but I might not be able to access myLot. I would say I spend up to 4 hours at work and when back at home in the evening, maybe another 3 hours or so, to check on mails, catch up with friends on IM, sign into the survey websites plus myLot too. I am really enjoying the discussion in myLot and do hope that it pays off in some ways in 2011. I wish you all the best in finding success, because when you do, let me know...maybe I consult you to teach me how to retire earlier. I would really love that. Thanks!

The most is two to four hours a day. At the moment I am locating some 30 minutes to earn money online, like posting in Mylot. I plan to increase it to one hour so I can earn more money online. I also started to look for other online money making alternatives so when I found good and reliable money making websites I may increase my online time dedicated to online money making. I hope I can become active in doing this activity.

I spend a lot of time in front of my computer every day. Some days, I spend more than others, but I still spend quite a bit of time in front of it. I do have to admit though that I spend more time on my computer than I really should. I shouldn't spend so much time, but there are times, when I simply can't help but spend so much time on my computer. Unfortunately, it's something that i can't always help but do.

My computer is my job/business and since my hours are sporadic I spend a lot of time in front of the computer trying to market what I do. It's all work and no play though. It's also just too cold to go out and garden or play right now. Too cold and wet. I would just suggest getting up and going. Make goals to accomplish something that requires you to get away from it. Do you garden? Have a dog? A library nearby? Walk there.

To shorten the time of facing the computer, I shall have a fast computer and internet system. Everyday, I just limit myself to go online for 3 hours per day. Before going online or turning on my computer, I shall sketch a plan of my usage which is limited to 3 hours or a bit more. Never keep myself to use the computer for too long.
