The people who used to live in my home where smokers so now then the walls get cold and the moister seeps through the wall it brings out a yellow tinged water from the smoke. I have been told that the only thing you can do about it was to paint the walls allot but I was wondering if anyone else knew of anything that will work too.

gross. You should try to varnish it like wood so it seals up. Then you paint it. Remember to get all of it varnished.

I think this may be what me and my boyfriend do. Thankfully we will have a new property manager soon and we are hoping he will be more apt to help get it taken care of.

Have you tried washing them with a mild cleanser and warm water. Time consuming but should help

I used bleach water on all the walls and surfaces when we moved in. I did it really good too and when I see more on the wall I wipe it off with bleach water and a towel.

Really I don't think there is too much that you can do if it has really set in. You can try washing the walls, but sometimes that leaves a residual thing that is just faded, but still exists. I guess that would be your best option. Still a lot of the time, if the smoke damage has settled, it can be a lot of trouble. Not impossible but extremely hard to get it out.

painting over it is the easy solution. However you can wash the walls with cleaners or you can use baking soda which is harmless. The problem with baking soda is that you will have to make sure to scrub off any residue left from the first scrubbing. So at this point its a matter of personal choice.
