Do you think we are dependent on Sachin to win World Cup 2011?

Hi friends,
I was responding a discussion and thought of asking this to you guys.
Sachin is the greatest player and there is no debate about it but we can not ignore other performers in the team. There is Sehwag, Gambhir, Raina and other batsman in the team. Sachin is the confidence of the team but it's important for the team that others also need to perform in the World Cup 2011.
He is the strength of the team and gives confidence to the team but team is not solely dependent on him?
What do you say?

Cricket is a Team Game.
True, some matches are turned head on by one Big Performance....but, still all the eleven players have some role to play.
Sachin has been an icon and a true performer and is a great influence on the Team.
His mere prescence is a threat to the opponents...but is India wholly dependent on Sachin to win the World Cup???..
my answer is NO....
The one player in Indian Team who can win Matches for India on his own is Virender Sehwag..

unfortunately,thats the truth.
winning a bilateral series or asia cup or some trination series is nothing because people just forget it if you lost all the matches and won all matches in the next series so sachin opted out
but world cup is alltogether a different phenomena.
the 2007 team was a good one but all it took is one bad to take out such a good team.
the strategy is always be the same for world cup.
bat around tendulkar
because the team doesnt have anyone else who can bat for almost 30 overs .only gambhir has the talent while other are the bang mens.cant trust them for more than 10 overs

I think, this time scenario is different and we have the chance to win the world cup. Winning matches is not job of one player and a team contribution is required. So if we as a team are goign to perfom than only expect victory.

Dear Ajay,
Gone are the days that we depended on Sachin. ( Thankfully).
Today, India is one team that has plenty of match winner. I feel that if any two players from our team have a good day, India will win the match.
With the risk of backlash from Sachin fans, may i also add that Sachin's insistence on opening the innings in ODI's is actually hampering India's balance. Gambir is less effective with the field spread out.
However, it will be nostalgic to see Sachin finishing his ODI career with a world cup win for INDIA. That will be fairytale stuff for Indian Cricket !

I would not say that Sachin's presence in the top order is not helping India.
I would be so happy the day India lifts world cup trophy .

There was a time during the 90s when Sachin was an indispensable figure in the ODIs but now he is no more that much a wanted man. There is no doubt he can still play his strength but it has been long 21 years and if a baby was born then he too would be playing with Sachin now. How many people get such a long playing career. For Sachin this itself is a record.
Since '83 many World Cups passed but we , even in the presence of Sachin could not lift it for the second time and now looking for the 2011 edition. They say Sachin would help bringing the cup. But I am not so optimistic.

Yeh, we have not been able to win the world cup title after 83, there is a great chance to do so this time. I just hope this will happen and Sachin's contribution will be good.
Just hope for the best my friend .

Thankfully gone are the days when each one of us used to conclude the fate of a match considering if sachin in the crease or not.Indian team was too dependent on sachin and dravid back then.As of now its soo good to see players who can win matches single handedly ... Suresh Raina,Virat Kohli,Sehwag can bring in nightmares on any given day which only increases the chance of india to get hold of the triumph this season!great day.

I would say, it depends on the venue and the pressure of the situation.
As the world cup is going to be in Indian sub-continent, I am sure others will also perform well and therefore, there will not be that much dependency on Sachin, however, in pressure situations, I am sure others will look up to Sachin for a good start. Also, all of us know, when you say World cup, Sachin will always be in form and perform anywhere in the world. Let's hope he completes his 50 centuries in ODI matches in this world cup.

A good start is the base to win the match given chance to bat first and if Sachin does great in the opening definitely it will be beneficial for the team. He is the key player with Sehwag and should do good.
he has become the face of the Cricket world and everyone look at him with lot of expectations but we have other good players who can win matches for us.

No we are not dependent on Sachin tendulkar though Tendulkar is outstanding player,no doubt.Of late India is very good one day team without Tendulkar, though definately Sachin has its role to play in this world cup.His presence obviously gives confidence to his team....

I think it has been quite some time since when our dependence on Sachin has reduced. More so in the shorter forms. He does not play in T20s at all. And team has been winning without him in ODIs quite often as well. When he is there, he gives the team a more definite edge, but the team does pretty well without him as well.
Cheers!
Ram

Well said, dependency is reduced from his shoulders but his presence is a moral boost for the team performance.

he is the greatest player without any confusion and his role would be very important but there will not be a dependency that we can not win match without him. There are other good players in form and we have greater chance to win the world cup title.
