What is with collecting autographs?

Hi everyone! Please don't get the title wrong, I'm not talking about collecting autographs in a bad way. I actually collect some myself for some years now. On to the discussion, why do we collect autographs? It's a simple signature of a person. Do we want to say or flaunt that we met the person or at least had been in contact with that person (autographs through the mail)? Is it because we want to have something that's part of that person we like? I'm just really curious about why we/I collect them. It just gives a great and nice feeling to receive/get one. Happy myLotting!

When I was younger I used to write to movie stars just to get an autographed picture. I can understand it if you are collecting autographs. One day they will be worth alot of money if you just keep on collecting pictures with autographs.

Thanks for the response! Contrary to most autograph collectors, I only have small collection from the actors I admire. Some of them are personalized and I wouldn't sell them.

I think I have mine in a box of memories when I was young. I haven't thought about selling them also because I went through alot of trouble in getting them while I was young.

Collecting autographs is really exciting and adventurous too you know. I was able to get an autograph of this male actor. A female friend asked favor to me to get her one. She can't make it because of her height. It was really an adrenaline what more if it was my favorite female actress. I might dive on the crowded and hungry people for autographs
