Commercials

Hello fellow mylotters. I have an opinion about some commercials that are being played lately. One involves a mother and son. The son is in his room, supposedly doing homework but really talking with friends on the internet. The mother is in the living room, also on the internet. She is aware that her son is online with friends and finished with homework, but she is happy he is busy so she can have quality time online. Am I the only one who feels this commercial is against family values? A partial family in a home and not talking to each other, and in fact quite grateful the other is busy so they can talk with friends in a virtual world. A child who is not out playing ball, running, riding a bike, communicating with others in real life. This bugs me. Equally disturbing to me is the fact mom has no care what he is doing, who he is talking to, etc. Another commercial selling a family plan phone service has children on the phone at a park. Mom and dad separate from the kids who are off on their own. When we went to amusement parks, my parents went on rides with us. We stuck together. Yet another commercial selling a car, the kids all have their own tv, earbuds, games, etc. When I was a kid, we listened to what dad wanted to hear. We talked to each other. I was allowed to do homework, but was not allowed to do anything else including reading for pleasure on the long ride. Now I am older and I see nothing at all wrong with my parents rules. These rules brought us together as a family and opened up communication. At times it was boring, but we dealt with it. There's nothing wrong with being bored. Boredom encourages creativity. Fellow mylotters, do you feel the same as me? Often I feel so alone and kind of weird because I don't think people should give the kids all the toys, phones, computers, etc. I feel there is something wrong with a society that encourages such separation of family, emotionally, physically and spiritually. I feel these children are suffering from over stimulation. It is stunting their verbal and other social skills. Many are also ill-mannered.

I agree. I am not that old but I do agree that twitter and tv and stuff are pulling families appart not putting them together.

Yes. It is also a sign of our culture. These things are now considered normal. Very sad.

I would care a lot more if I actually paid attention to any of the commercials. I think that it is really too little too late. Trying to figure out how to do something right now is shutting the barn door after all of the animals already escaped. I think that the Internet companies really only care about the money to begin with. Such a frustrating side effect in the world we live in but so very true.

This is what the internet and cable tv do to Familes. They have some commercials like the bell one where friends are all gathered around the computer or the television to watch a game or see a funny clip of video but in reality that doesn't really happen. Kids are on the internet chatting away and doing god knows what while the parents are happy to have some quite time there is rarely any contact between them. Also the only time the make contact is at dinner when the kid is getting his/her food but they would probally eat in their room and Cable and internet just take families away from each other at most time. Its a Sad Sad thing

It is sad. They do not know what they are missing, but the kids will when they get older.
