Not one of my favorite foods, my Chinese friends eat it everyday and with almost everything. There are machines to cook the food these day, is there really a need for a rice cooker? I do fine the old way, putting it on the stove top letting it boil and wash the starch off it to be fine. The food is also a stable in many part of the world. How do you feel about this food?

I'm a Filipino and rice is a staple here. We cook rice using a rice cooker whch certainly beats the stove-top alternative. Using the rice cooker is easier and also results in an evenly cooked rice. You also don't have to check on the rice every once in a while, since the rice cooker will automatically stop when the rice is cooked.
Using the stove would mean that the rice at the bottom of the pot would be overcooked since it has most contact with fire. It would also be possible that the top most rice is a little undercooked. You also have to check the pot if the rice is already cooked. You can't leave it sitting on the fire.
Using the rice cooker, heat comes at the bottom and at the perimeter of the pot, so that the rice is evenly cooked. It also stops automatically when the rice is already cooked. It's easier to cook rice there. I'm glad it was invented!

I love rice although it is not my only staple food. I make rice at least once a week and I don´t have a rice cooker and don´t feel I need one. I liike to make my rice fried, frying garlic first, then adding the rice (frying it until golden) and only the adding the water.
I think rice goes along with almost anything. I love it.

I love it! I'm Asian and eat it everyday as well. There's not really a NEED for a rice cooker, but it makes everything more efficient and spend less time. Just wash the rice, fill the bucket thingy with water, and put it in the rice cooker. Putting it on a stove, boiling it, etc., is too much work, honestly. I've never tried it, but I don't think I'd want to.
