Songs these days are so forgettable....

that's what I think... Don't you remember those old classic songs, I still hear them in the radio and many artists are still singing them- remaking them. They're still alive even after all these decades, so unforgettable. But now some songs aren't that good anymore- they talk about anything and don't even make sense anymore. They get famous for a while then are forgotten after a month or two. What has happened to the quality and meaning of song. It's like some songwriters just write songs for the sake of making money...

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you listen to the radio, don't you?? Yeah, that's the problem. There is amazing music out there, just not in the mainstream.

Well that question doesn't really have a simple answer. I listen to a lot of different types of music, mostly underground. I'll just list some bands, I guess: Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, Infected Mushroom, Kottonmouth Kings, The Dirtball, (hed)PE, Bliss N Eso, Daft Punk, Prodigy, OPM, Heyoka.

I've never really heard of any of those bands before.. I think I really should broaden my taste in songs.. Is OPM a band ? OPM has a different meaning in my country..

I am 100% with you here lady1993. I never listen to any songs which are played now,no, not even Michael Jackson.I belong to the pld school and my choice of songs are those from the 50`s,60`s and early 70`s and nothing beyond that.the songs of old are evergreen and hummable and listenable.Even the singers were fabulous, the music was soft and endearing and not noisy as it is today. The classics of old were mostly romantic songs and one could listen to them forever.Nowadays the craze for fame and money has spoilt the lyrics and even the tunes are harsh and do not stick to the mind unlike the old songs.with the advent of TV such type of songs which todays generation loves ie fast paced and loud music has made me withdraw from listening to any of it. I still prefer to listen to my old tapes which give me a lot of pleasure.

Of course, i know the Beatles ince they belong to my generation.Infact i had a band of my own in the 60`s and we called ourselves the Archibeats and we used to sing and play all Beatles numbers besides the others. I was the lead guitarist of the group.

I know what you mean and I have to agree with you. It seems like a lot of music these days have no substance therefore they are easily forgettable. It's not only the songs either, the artists are the same way. They'd be popular for a while and a few years down the road you wouldn't even know who they were. I feel the industry today is all about making quick money. Everyone is pretty much putting out the same kind of thing so eventually they all sound the same so there isn't anything that stands out.

yes, lots of music these days truly have no substance or depth, just talking about parties, dance, getting high, cars, etc.. Yes, I agree with you, artist these days come and go, they're famous now, then a few months later, we have no idea where they are.

I agree with EVERYTHING said here!!! However, I can remember my parents saying the EXACT same thing about our music back in the 60s,70s, etc. I, myself, don't care much for the up & coming music of today. Not only do I listen to the "classics" of the 60s, 70s, etc, I'm finding I'm enjoying my parent's music. As I've matured, I'm finding GREAT peace in listening to the original Blues & Jazz!!! I used to enjoy a lot of the Country music, but the new stuff tends to suck!!!! The other thing I'm noticing is that a large portion of what my generation called "Rock" actually had a huge "Blues" influence. Most of the newbies coming out now are keeping with the Blues roots. I spent a good portion of my weekend listening to Michael Grimm. He was the most recent winner of America's Got Talent. He has taken a good number of the quasi Bluesy/Rock music of my generation & added a Bluesy funk to it thereby making an ALL NEW unforgettable song for this new generation!!! I'm hoping there will be MORE like him coming out before I pass on!!!!

Yes, I kind of enjoy what my parents listen to... those jazz and blue songs. They are really nice, ans soothing. Yes, I'd like to hear more songs like that, maybe revive the blues and jazz music.

Isn't that the truth. I'm sure that there are a handful that stick out. However the vast majority of songs are just so cookie cutter. It is hard to believe about ninety five percent of the music out there being remembered about ten or twenty years from now. It is saddened, but the music industry has changed a lot and not always for the better.

Yes, there are still a handful that doesn't belong in the category I'm talking abut, thankfully. Yes, I doubt that people would still remember the top billboard songs even after just 5 years..

Perhaps it has something to do with artists making songs these days just to make a hit single instead of trying to make a complete cohesive album. That's why you see Katy Perry's "California Gurls" or Taio Cruz' "Dynamite" selling millions of copies, yet their albums are underperforming. But, yeah, songs these days ARE unforgettable. I can't see Kesha's "TiK ToK" being remembered 20 years from now, even though it was the most popular song of 2010, 'cause it sounds like any other song.

Haha, yes, I kind of like Kesha's song "Tik tok" even though it made no sense to me. but i also doubt if I'll remember it in a couple of years... Artists shouldn't hurry too much in completing albums and focus on the quality of songs too.

To me, songs these days are rubbish and not really meaning anything and easy to forget. I would prefer to hear oldies, songs from 60s 70s 80s and 90s have their meaning and characterics but I would prefer from 60s and 70s as they are the best. Though they may be old but they are unforgettable and it will live through generations. Who says Unforgettable, sung by Nat King Cole in 1954 already outdated? I think not, because this song is brilliant and very hard to forget its tune/melody.

Yes, but just some songs are rubbish, there are also new songs that still have meaning- like some Nickelback songs. I don't really know that much songs from the 60s and 70s though.

Yes, I agree with you. I do not exactly like or even bother to follow songs that are sung these days. I very much prefer songs that are sung by The Carpenters, ABBA , The Beatles, etc. I also like Christian songs sung by The Maranatha Singers, Amy Grant and Sandi Patti.

I still follow some songs though, but rarely. I also like the ones you mentioned, especially ABBa and Beatles, they are just great. I love their songs, they are just timeless.

that's true that's why i never really fancy new songs, well there are some that are actually nice, some new singers really have the talents but you'll notice that only old songs being revived by them are the things that last. in fact most new singers revive old timeless songs and include them in their album.

YEs, I als notice that some singers d revivals and actually include them in their album. I'm a bit tired f them doing that though, although the song is great, I really want something new but as great as the old songs to.

Yes, I do agree with you. Most of the songs now are hardly even worth listening. I am not saying all, since there are also those that are great. But comparing these new songs with the old ones, I do think that more of the old songs are better and meaningful. This is probably the reason why, I prefer to listen to the old songs as compared to the new ones.

Yes, older songs are definitely much better and meaningful that some of the songs these days. Whenever I am browsing through the radio, there are times that I don't find any song worth listening to.

Yes, I miss the old songs too. This is one reason why I don't really like most songs these days, they don't have much meaning anymore... They are a bit forgettable too. But good thing there are still some songs that are good.

I miss the old songs...Yes, the new songs these days are forgettable- but as you've said, it's a good thing that there are still good songs around. Thank you for your response.
